Like many other scenic spots in China, this might feel a bit over-developed sometimes because of the concrete walking paths and pavilions in the middle of nature. But the place is beautiful all the same, passing through pond after pond on the way up with some nice waterfalls. The ponds are a great place to cool off in the sweltering summer heat and humidity, as nobody minds if you go for a nice swim.
There are some more adventurous hiking trails up the mountain if you wish for a more strenuous experience.

Great walk along the creek to its springs, many waterfalls, all/day trip, halfway also available by bus, a barbecue place in the middle. Many steps, but ok for kids 4\5 and older

Beautiful scenery! Mountains around the ponds, best time to go in late spring or autumn. You can here the birds sing, the bees buzzzzz. Very nice place to spend a day off or weekend. Great for hiking.

Take bus 638. We enjoyed the bus ride along the river through little villages on a narrow road. You can see where all the vegetables for Ningbo are grown! The park was gorgeous. April is the perfect month to visit, the cherry blossoms were in bloom as well as the azaleas and some wisteria. It was breathtakingly beautiful. I only had my phone camera and was wishing I could take better pictures to attempt to capture the beauty. I recommend taking the tour bus to the end of the peninsula and walking back to the entrance on the trails. We walked from the front back, but decided halfway to hike back so we wouldn't miss the last bus back to Ningbo. The fee into the park is 50 RMB. Totally worth it! PS take a picnic, there are barbecue pits but no food, they do sale drinks and beer.
