“Great location but bad service.”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

The hotel standard was quite comparable with the price which we booked through booking.com.
Room was clean. Location of the hotel is great, close to shopping district, 24 hours KFC and McD just 1 minute away. But unfortunately, the check-in/out counter staffs were quite disappointing, as they might not be fluent in English. I had requested for 2 double bed rooms, confirmed by the check-in staffs at the counter but we got 2 twin bed rooms. We were just too lazy to change to a new bedroom as it was pretty late that night. Besides, during checkout when I was queing behind a couple, a CHINA lady just cut my queue and checked out. 4 staffs who were at the counter knew I was there for at least 5-10 minutes BUT yet attended to her first. THat was really disappointing.

Room Tip: Ensure you inform them the room that you require before getting into your room.

The hotel is located at the central walking streets, so it's the best location for those who came for a bit of shopping and eating out adventure. The room is clean enough. Breakfast is good, not excellent. I think they re-cook the sausages from previous day and serve again. Big and nice bath room. The room itself is a bit small, but that's probably the price you pay for being in the city center. Taxi cost from hotel to Panda place is 40 RMB, to airport (taking the taxi waiting in front) is 70 RMB (after a bit of bargaining). Charge was correct as per my booking, so no complaint.

Choosing this hotel (Local 5) because of it prime location near to most shopping districts! Hotel next to Isetan, Macdonald,Starbuck,Zara,Uniqlo,H&M,adidas n many other shops all within walking distance.Lobby smell nice with cosy sitting area, only slightly small (for 5-stars). The room is fine with local grade (no bath-tub).. the only bad that we encountered was the aircon was warm in the middle of the night despite setting to the lowest/coolest temperature. I was so warm that i woke almost every nights towards morning! My boy perspired:( Lastly, bad attitude from the ground manager, our tour guide had big quarreled with him at the lobby due to straight rude rejection from him fetching all our luggages to the bus (which located quite distance fr hotel due to road block, our big bus can't drove in).We felt that he can nicely explain if he really can't make it n not rude & crude attitude! We received luggages trolleyed in during checking-in but when checked out, we met him ( managerial level in suit but uncivilised attitude)

Affordable business hotel located right in the city center, and within walking distance to the major office buildings in Chengdu. Room is clean and well-appointed. Breakfast offering is not bad considering the price that I paid for the room. Would definitely return to this hotel on my next business trip to Chengdu.

You wouldn't expect that this hotel will be a gem...overall my stay here is a good one except for a few hiccups which was just minor. If you prefer to stay in a hotel situated in the center of a city, then this is a perfect hotel for you.the hotel is annexed to a Department store" ÏSETAN" .Around the area are all the BIG names stores such as Zara,Uniclo,etc..and restaurants and fast food chains! No problem with Shopping and Food... The Hotel is small, When you enter the lobby,it seems like you are checking in a motel but when you get to your room, it is modern, spacious and very well equipped with the necessary amenities that a 4 star hotel should have. We stayed during the most coldest month in Chengdu,January, but the room was a haven as the room heater was just right. The minor hiccups that I mentioned was 1.) The front desk ladies do not know how to speak or understand English, if you are lucky then you will find one. As we checked in, the first person who entertained us was clueless and she had to find one who knows how to check us in. (unprofessional) 2.)When we checked in, We were charged more than our room bill, at least 1,500 yuan more, and when I asked her, she said it was for the mini-bar, and i have to sign it...hmmm, that is not the norm.(i didn't sign),so please check always what you sign.3.) Don't trust the concierge, they want to make money out of you. Don't even try to ask for their help as they will just try to con you.4.) Do not take the taxis that are parked in-front of the hotel. they do not use meters and if they do, they again will con you. We went to the Panda Research Center and was charged 280yuan from the hotel and back..which we found out later was too much. We asked for a taxi to bring us to the domestic airport, Again, the concierge arranged it but the taxi dropped us off in the International airport and the domestic airport was about 780meters away.Yo can always flag a taxi down around the area.Last but not least, I requested for a wake up call at 6am but did not receive one. I berated the operator and front desk people about our missed call, then when I arrived in my room at the end of the day, I received an apology letter from their manager. Good service recovery!
All this hiccups you can avoid that's why I can still say that our stay overall in this hotel is a good one.oh,do not bring the cloth laundry bag that is inside the closet as when you checked out the front desk will really asked for it,embarrassing!!! (some BIG hotels don't mind us taking it but this one does)

The location in Chunxi Lu makes this a very great place for shopping. Most of the staff do not speak English. The rooms are big and well furnished and the bathrooms modern. The bedside reading light in our room created a short circuit when switched off and the lights in the whole floor went off. Since we could not speak in Mandarin, we were not able to communicate this to the staff. The air-conditioning in our room does not blow cool air and the room became hot and stuffy. We booked our rooms through Agoda which stated standard rooms with breakfast but when we went for breakfast was told that breakfast is not included in our rooms. Tried to sort the problem but since my Mandarin is limited and all the staff have limited command of English, decided to just pay for our breakfast. The selection for breakfast was good.

We had a meal at the Premier Court Chinese restaurant and that was the most expensive and worst meal we had in our entire trip. We went to the restaurant at 9.10pm and the staff were not pleased to see us as they close at 9.30pm. Most of the dishes we ordered were not available or sold out. They presented us the bill before we finished our meal and then told us to hurry up as they were closing. Very bad experience.

Might stay again if above grouses are sorted out.

Overall the hotel was very good. Big, clean rooms; perfect location; really good breakfast.
The disappointment was the concierge. He lyed to us when asking if it was possible to take the bus to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base! Even when we told him it said in a brochure in the hotel (and in Rough Guide) that it was possible to take the bus to the Base he said that he was certain that there were no buses anymore! When we then ended up taking the taxi instead he tried to get us into a taxi outside the hotel that tried to overcharge us by more than 50%.
We ended up walking a bit away from the hotel and taking another taxi.
When we arrived at the Research Base we saw both the bus stop at the Base and a bus coming from central Chengdu!
It was really a disappointment that you can't trust the concierge at such a great hotel like the Haiyatt.
