Arrived one evening, and my company had dropped the ball with reservations. Staff was very pleasant, but gave me a room I did not care for. Next day they changed rooms for me and left a nice bottle of wine as a thank you.

Restaurant was nice, had both the breakfast buffet as well as dinner. Not overpriced when compared to usual 5 star venues. Good food.

Staff in lobby and restaurant were top notch. Some spoke better english than others, but everything worked out well. Selection of nice places to eat and shop out the back door.

Hope to stay here every trip to Chengdu

I stayed at this hotel for two nights. Hotel is located in a very newly development part of the city, not really far from Sichuan University where I need to do some work at. Hotel has this amazing lobby. Room is big and comfortable, truly 5 star facilities, bed is big and comfortable. Bathroom is big with huge spa bathtub. Hotel has very nice gym and swimming pool. Breakfast and lunch buffet are great! a lot of choices. Lunch buffet also has some tasty Indian curry, just so tasty. Service in general are pretty good, but there are some unfriendly staff around. Hotel also has a bird cage at dinning area, this big bird was caged in the lobby. I don't understand how this bird cage could improve my dining experience, in fact probably make me feel really uncomfortable. There are some restaurants and shops behind the hotel, you could go out from backdoor. All in all it was great stay.

Dear guest, thank you for staying at InterContinental Century City Chengdu and post your review afterwards. It is appreciated that you both mentioned all hotel merits in service, foods and rooms and suggestions for us to improve. As members of our “staff”, these birds learn to welcome guests in an interesting way. In case of guest safety, birds are caged for watch. We hope to create a leisure atmosphere close to nature. We look forward to your next trip with us.

Spent 4 days at the Intercontinental Hotel in Chengdu. Hotel staff was very friendly. Hotel very nice. Great lobby I loved the music and tai chi in the lobby every morning. Breakfast was great and the evening buffet well stocked. Hotel had a nice open lobby bar. The 2 pc band was very pleasant. One night a patron convinced the band to let him sing. I thought OMG but he was awesome blues singer. Very entertaining. Bartender from Australia was a pleasant fellow. Eva was a great waitress. My basck was bothering me. Had a visit to the spa and Rose fixed it. Great room, Great food, Great staff ......Great hotel.

Room Tip: Traffic around the hotel like in the rest of Chengdu was nuts. Plenty of cabs at the hotel, don'e hire a car.

Smooth check in and check out - the room was stunning though it may be due to being upgraded to get a non smoking room. Lounge bar was good for a snack and drinks - with live music. Efficient business centre and reliable wifi - essential when you are there for work. Only slight negative is the limited breakfast (impossible to get hot bacon) but guess it reflects the majority of client taste

Easy ride from the airport to the hotel. The location is good for business involving the convention center or for those who do not want to visit the city but need to have the airport within reasonable distance. The location itself is uninteresting; shops and restaurants around the hotel feel empty.

We visited Chengdu as tourists and concluded that Chengdu does not really have a good hotel location. Going in or out the city centre is a bit of a traffic nightmare. So if you visit the Panda research centre, it even may be best to stay at the far away InterContinental and take the taxi by highway. This went still quit fast and we payed 80 RMB. If you go to the centre, take your time or use the subway. The hotel map shows a subway station right next to the hotel. This is absolutely inaccurate, in fact it is quit a long walk (about 15 minutes). So maybe you might take a cheap taxi ride to a south subway station (like the ‘Sichuan Provincial Stadium’ with it’s brand new ‘Raffles City’ shopping mall) and take the subway from there.

The hotel itself proved to be a typical realiable InterContinental. Impressive lobby, luxurious still functional rooms. As Ambassadors we were upgraded to a very large studio suite. Great beds. They did forget to put some fruit and a welcome gift in the room. So I asked reception. I never received the fruit, but I did get two Panda’s, a bottle of wine, a reduction to the room rate and I was allowed to visit the club: ‘Because you are not satisfied with the welcome’ … English is truly a big issue in this hotel. Even in the club they will not be able to answer your questions. Be creative and patient.

Food selection and quality for breakfast was very good. We also enjoyed our lunch at the bar. Although they did forget to bring drinks, a meal and we needed to wait very long for a correct bill. The staff did not understand a word we were saying. After receiving some extra cutlery, a bit of sauce, I finally got the salt I asked for. The only western guy available did not bother to help out. Not any attention from the staff either when it comes to the smoking policy. Forget a non smoking seat in the non smoking section. Nobody seems to care. The Italian restaurant was not that super, but ok. Food fine, but the extremely loud live music kept people outsite. What’s the business model? The weather was fine, so we were able to eat on the terrass.

Concierge did a good job arranging a day tour to Leshan. Not just the expensive hotel car, but all options were mentioned. Only our departure from the hotel early in the morning did disappoint us. Nobody there. So we left the building without even being noticed. Victims to taxi drivers who decided to refuge to use the taxi meter. Well, this was no tour first time we travelled to China. But I would have appreciated some help from the hotel staff.

A bit strange is the lack of a swimming pool in such a big hotel.
But overall, we would be very happy to choose this hotel again next time in Chengdu.
