This place left me in two minds.... First the good- The staff here are fantastic! great english and are always willing to help out, thats about it for the good unfortunately : (
The Bad- while i was there they where renovating, now i realise that these things have to be done but the place looked like a war zone 24/7. My room took about 5 minutes to get to from the front gate, this place is all over the shop and it took us 20 minutes to find our room. The floors in the room are concrete which makes for a cold room is winter and they where also a little pokie.Im not a fussy man and I hope that this place has scrubbed up well but some of these issues a renovation would be able to fix. 2 stars out of 5... sorry sim's....

We stayed in June 2012 for 3 nights. We traveled throughout China, backpacking, for several weeks and my husband and I both enjoyed this hostel the most out of all the hostels we stayed at over the course of our trip.

I definitely understand why the word "Cozy" is in the name of this place. Although it's situated in the middle of a fairly busy street, essentially a concrete jungle, it is set back from the road and is not what we were expecting. Nice greenery, very quiet ... it really feels like a retreat at the end of a busy day site seeing.

We stayed in a family suite, to have our own private room/bathroom. The room was very clean and spacious.

We ate breakfasts in the restaurant at Sim's and always enjoyed our food.

Finally, the staff at Sim's was extremely helpful. They always had tips, maps, etc. to help you get to where you needed to go. We also arranged a tour through Sim's to go to the Chengdu Panda Base and it was fantastic, highly recommend it.

My only complaint is it was a bit hard to notice the hostel from the street, didn't have the greatest signage from the street, and as we arrived late at night it made it difficult to see where we needed to go.

Room Tip: If you're traveling as a couple, you might as well upgrade to the private room with private bath...

This is the perfect choice for a stay in Chengdu, with on-site tourdesk (where they provide info and help you arrange onward transport, tours & daytrips), bar (frequented by ex-pats), restaurant and internet cafe it has all the amenities you could wish for.

Rooms are bright and clean, while the beds are comfy. Everyone is very friendly and willing to help. Highly recommended!

Outstanding hostel, exactly as promised by the LP and every online review we'd read. Great rooms, free dvds, good travel advice (incl. their own map of Chengdu), helpful and friendly staff, nice terrace with as much (or as little) privacy as you like, OK restaurant. Would definitely stay here again.

I dont know if it is the transfer of owners but I think sims has seen better days. The whole place looks a little scruffy. Maybe its the season gloomy weather that makes this place looks gloomy too. the whole building including the room was very cold and damp. There is central heating but it was not on. The hallways look a little depressing, again it could be the season. The rooms are ok but a little scruffy for the price you pay. The beds are bad and three sides against the wall so you have to climb over each other to get in bed. If you shower everything gets wet. We stayed in a double ensuite basic room (the ones that are also used as singles). Staff is mostly friendly and helpful but a little shy sometimes in speaking english. Clenaing ladies verynoisy very early in the morning. Positive: wifi everywhere, free luggage storage.

Restaurant/bar is ok. For example: Salad was great, home made french fries where great, noodles where nice little oily, ginger chicken with rice was nice, breakfast toast a little dry but nice with eggs. Beer good price. Good coffee! Hot chocolate horrible.

Room Tip: Pay a little more money and get a bigger and more comfortable room if you are traveling with a coupl...

Is this really a hostel?! This is easily on par with many European 3* hotels, and at a fraction of the cost and infinitely friendlier staff.

The room for 3 people was a good size, clean, with all the facilities you could want and a spacious, clean bathroom. It has a bar,, outside seating areas, a DVD and book library, a games room and a restaurant, and their travel centre can help you arrange all kinds of trips (which admittedly aren't all value for money, but hey, you gotta make a profit somehow). The staff are outstanding and simply cannot do enough for you.

One of the best things about Sims is the communal atmosphere. You really will find an amazing array of people from all countries and all walks of life here, and they're all having a good time. And when you factor in what you're paying for all this, it really is a no-brainer- this is the only place worth staying in Chengdu!

The one and only downer about this place is it's location- it's really far away from the centre and there's no metro nearby (yet....) and this is compounded by the fact Chengdu is about as easy to navigate as rush hour New York. However, we found a host of outstanding restaurants right on the doorstep, so food can easily be taken care of.

I can only join in with many of the previous reviewers and the lonelyplanet. The name is well deserved. It really is a cozy place, with the garden, the cute though somewhat crazy cat and the helpful staff who all speak english very well. The room we stayed in (one of the very small doublerooms) was totally fine, hot water constantly available (and not just dripping out a bit of the shower, but a strong stream) and the bed was soft. Towels were probided too.

The panda tour is really nice. Though it might be a little short at first glance, you actually dont need more time for that, because it is like any zoo...but only with pandas, so it gets old quickly.

For the hostel itself again, we originally planned to stay 3 nights. We ended up staying 5 nights, doing almost nothing, except the panda tour and walking around the city a bit. Its just such a nice place. Met nice people at the bar, beer is cheap, cocktails are good too. WIFI works well most of the time. Chillout areas are great too.

But as always, it is a hostel, not a hotel, so expect it to be a little more loud and not meticulously clean. This way you wont be disappointed.
