“Great short stay!”
Reviewed April 25, 2014

We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights using SL points for the one booking. As ever a reliable SL hotel! We used hotels transfers to and from the airport which was pretty good value and a lot easier than a taxi. Very swift check in (in the lounge not the lobby) and our room was available immediately which was great as we had taken the early flight from Shanghai (Shangri La hotels are always great at ensuring rooms are available regardless of when you check in!) As usual great facilities in the room - lovely toiletries, towels, linen, bathrobes, slippers etc. well stocked mini bar, iron, tea & coffee (can't bear hotels with no tea / coffee in the room) We had a so-called 'city view' - this needs to be taken as 'no view'. If staying again I would request a river view! We didn't have a Horizon room either but in all honesty as our teen was with us it wasn't needed! We ate in the bar one evening - great steaks! Cooked to perfection! But we had to move outside to eat because it was so smoky - the smoking in restaurants thing is improving in Shanghai a bit so it was a shock to be enveloped in fumes! Breakfast was excellent! The hotel is also in a great position for exploring Chengdu - wander along the river in either direction to explore! Hotel staff were pretty good at summoning taxis for you and the added bonus is that the taxi drivers are quite pleasant!! Chengdu has a great feel (despite the pollution) as it is very relaxed and chilled out - no market traders trying to sell you stuff, they are happy for you to wander in and look. We enjoyed the tea houses, temples, markets, city centre and the best part - cuddling the pandas!!

Room Tip: Go for a river view!

This urban hotel based its elegance in his appearance and style, where the pastel colours and basic lines provide a warm and homely feel. In addition to a lobby with output and 24-hour reception service, safe, cloakroom and lift, this air-conditioned establishment has snack-bar, hairdresser and bar.

Top quality 5 star hotel, good location just outside main town centre, but on the river and near to bars and restaurants and local life. Excellent rooms and residents areas, good lounges and in house restaurants. Horizon rooms and private lounge are exceptional.Nice pool, spa and gym.

The staff are friendly but some are limited with their command of the English language, but they try hard.

Good concierge staff though who can speak English.

Room Tip: High floors and the Horizon club rooms are best.

I have stayed in a couple both local and international top recommended hotel in Chengdu but this hotel is the best one ever.

Its own the very nice setting by the river, next to the new entertainment complex named Lan Kwai Fong that offers may kind of top knot restaurants, lounge, live music bars and clubs in town; only few minutes drive to Chunxi road and the most exciting one they have the free shutte to IFS building located in the heart of the city. For some who looking for the local taste, it is just accross the river with much more things to discover locally.

The room quite nice and have good sound-proof together with the high quality bedding amenities spared me a very good sleep. The gym and pool are the resort highlight that kept me working out daily during my stay here.

Shang Palace, the hotel restaurant outlet is the must dine for every Dimsum fan. The restaurant for breakfast is just okie or maybe because of I did not spent much time here, just came for a quick breakfast then jumped to work.

The hotel associates are helpful, friendly and attentive. Special thanks to David at Concierge who helped to reach out trouble with the local taxi driver and Judy, Duty Manager for the very dedicated service during my check out. I can feel their passion in daily work as well as to cater the best services to clients.

Strongly recommend this hotel for anyone!

My partner and I spent 3 days in Chengdu recently and had a great experience both with the hotel and its facilities. The hotel is in the "renewed" part of the city done by the then Mayor in the early 2000's.

Although Chengdu is a city of 18 million people we generally found it comfortable although at some of the major temples and Peoples Park there were crowds.

The hotel is well located to the major shopping precincts and to restaurant/bar precincts including the adjacent Lan Kwai Fong.

The hotel has aged gracefully and has typical Shangri-La space and elegance.

We found all staff were excellent to deal with and everyone we encountered had good English and had no difficulty responding to our needs. It's probably unfair to single out certain staff but one of the duty managers, Judy and the housekeeping staff on floor 34 were outstanding.

Check in and out was efficient and handled pleasantly. The Concierge staff were able to look after a couple of bookings painlessly.

Although we were on the Horizon Club floors, we had breakfast in the Fez Café and found it all very adequate and satisfactory without being extraordinary. It's difficult to imagine or describe any aspect which was missing and all stations were topped up frequently but to my mind it was short of the Shangri-La, Bangkok which is a benchmark.

Cocktails and canapés in the Horizon Club by comparison were much better than the other properties that we've experienced. The Horizon Club facility was a comfortable space.

As usual the Lobby Lounge had good ambience for casual drinks with entertainment. We had a look in the Irish Bar but opted for a quieter space.

Our bedroom on floor 34 was very comfortable with a great bed and the bathroom was typical for the brand.

All in all we had a great experience and the Shangri-La brand proved reliable base for exploring Chengdu.

Of course, we would recommend the property!!

All are good except of terrible noise made by people and hotel music that dose not match up to its high end, sounds like in a sloppy hostel without good maintains. Hopefully our voice is be heard and the hotel could make some improvement of be quiet.

Just had three nights here to visit the Panda reservations. Room was well equipped clean and comfortable and all the staff were very good. We upgraded to the Horizon lounge which offered very good value for money with drinks and snacks every evening. Shang's restaurant was OK but nothing special although cheap by European standards. Cafe Z was much better and excellent buffet choices and wine included. Chengdu was a mixed bag for us with great Panda experiences but disappointing in a number of other ways. Not helped by the climate - cool, cloudy and smog. We checked out early as Michelle Obama was due to stay and the hotel was going to become a security nightmare.
