We had lovely river view end rooms with panoramic views of the river. We stayed club level. Lovely breakfasts. Great gym. There was a large convention going on at the time with a lot of security but just had to show my key.

Good hotel, nice rooms and bathrooms, riverview rooms are worth the extra money, gym and pool are great, the Shang Palace restaurant is excellent and reasonably priced (also compared to some Chinese restaurants in the immediate vicinity). Mr. Sky Zhou is very helpful at the concierge desk, others tried to sell us limo services at steep prices for places we could easily reach by bus. Luckily we declined the limos. Café Z had decent food but filthy placemats, chairs, napkins etc. that are below Starbucks’ standard are clearly not ok for a first-class hotel. Room service breakfasts are the much better option.
We stayed at this hotel during a Grand Tour of China with Cox and Kings. Although we stayed for 2 nights, our time in the hotel was limited due to our hectic schedule.
We were booked into an Executive River View room which was large, with an excellent quiet air conditioning system and no road noise - so peaceful. The shower head had the usual Shangri La fault - it wouldn't stay in position.
The hotel is large and during our visit full of Chinese and really buzzing.
The selection for breakfast was large and extensive.
Because we opted out of the planned excursion for the day and decided to visit Jinli Strret market, we must thank Sky on the concierge team who helped plan our trip, it was one of the highlights of the tour. We were jostling along with what felt like millions of Chinese, taking photos and being photographed - wonderful, such an experience.
Typical Shangri-La style and quality with spacious, comfortable rooms and a good choice of eating and drinking options. Service was very helpful. I'd recommend using the hotel car who have a special rate to take you to the panda reserve. The driver will accompany you around the reserve if you wish and then bring you home.
The only place to stay in Chengdu, IMO.. Rooms were great.
Were upgraded to the Horizon suite even before we told them we were a member of Golden circle.. The restaurant was decorated superbly! What really made this place was the staff, so friendly and helpful. I would specifically like to mention the concierge team who helped us were sensational in particular Jack was fantastic!
The buffet looked amazing and had one of the best spreads I have seen, definately in China anyways, Although the only downside i felt was the taste... all the dishes tasted the same and extremely bland, i guess looks arent everything with food...
The spa, sauna, steam room was Exceptional!
Being a regular of Shangri-La hotels across China, I have come to expect nothing but the best, which is what the hotel chain usually delivers. Perhaps this explains why I was somewhat disappointed by our stay there. The welcoming teapot was in our room upon arrival, but it was empty (and was never filled during our two day stay there despite my requests). We had several difficulties caused by the staff being unable to understand english and our inability to properly speak chinese. I found it amusing, for example, when my request for a bathrobe (there were not the usual two bathrobes in our room upon arrival, but only one) was interpreted initially as a request for a battery! These are all very small annoyances, but they seemed to add up, despite all the great efforts of the staff to address them.
