“Nice budget hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2013

It's a nice clean hotel with friendly English speaking receptionists. Good value for money. Restaurant is a little plain and non atmospheric but food is good. Gym is very basic too but it's nice they tried to offer some equipment.

This hotel is really adorable, from the rooms to the lobby and the small coffee shop at the bottom floor. We only stayed here for 2 nights, but were very pleased with everything. If we ever go back to Chengdu, we would definitely like to stay here again!

We moved here after a disappointing stay at the Old Chengdu Club Hotel and were glad to have made that choice. We had one single room in Tibetan style, which was rather small but nicely decorated and quite cozy. The double room was very spacious and comfortable, the bathroom spotless. Free WiFi was also included in the rate.
Breakfast is not bad at all. Though it was very busy one morning, the staff tried to accommodate guests as good as they could.
The souvenir shops on the ground floor are overpriced, but they always are in hotels. Most things are rather forgettable, but we found some items we really liked and hadn't seen anywhere else, and negotiated a 10% discount.

We only had one lunch in the coffee shop, but that was rather average with slow service, even though we were the only guests.

The location isn't terrific though. There isn't much around the hotel to rave about. We looked in vain for a decent restaurant nearby. There's a subway station within 10 minute walking distance, which came in quite handy. It's a good and inexpensive way to get to some busier areas.

We did, however, have some other issues. On check-in we were told that even though we had booked a double room, only one free breakfast was included. Hotel policy, they said. Ridiculous. After some intense arguments, we eventually got our second free breakfast.

We had a pre-paid rate, which was also confirmed during check-in. During check-out however, we were told that the rooms hadn't been paid yet and that we needed to pay again. We had to leave for the airport and no time for arguments, so we just paid and left. To their credit, we got a refund a few days later after I had complained to the online agency and they apologized for their mistake. Still, it just shouldn't happen.

I wouldn't think of it as a five star hotel, but compared to the Old Chengdu Club, which is rated a four star property, the Tibet Hotel is way better in all aspects. I would go back.

A charming hotel with a hard working staff that is eager to please. We were delighted with the Tibet Hotel. Our well appointed room did remind us of some of the more exotic aspects of Tibetan culture. Our splendid, comfortable hard bed boasted a headboard with angular lines evoking images of the Himalayan mountains for us. It seemed only fitting that this hotel had been chosen for us on the day that we were to spend at the Panda Preserve.

A pleasant western style breakfast was prepared for us in the dining room. Breakfast was usually the one meal of the day, when the stomach could relax a bit given that one stood an excellent chance of finding something similar to that which one finds at home. Other meals could be dramatic in adventurousness, scope, and style for the slavish adherent to western style foods!

The location of the hotel seemed entirely appropriate since our tour leaders would simply secure buses to transport us to whichever destination was next on the event horizon. Exotic views were not part of the experience in that a look out one’s window merely confirmed that one was in the center of another large eastern city.

Friendly and efficient hotel and comfortable rooms. Good breakfast choice. Nice central position in a lovely city. No problems encountered at all and staff had helpful suggestions. Felt a bit old-fashioned as a hotel, particularly in the public areas but a troublefree stay in all.

This Tibetan themed hotel has many features which make it different, interesting, colourful, warm and friendly. The staff too are friendly and many speak 'reasonable' English but their willingness to assist wins over in times of ambiguity.
Guest bedrooms are spacious and have everything needed however they are 'old' (but clean) and are unusually styled - Tibetan theming! (We had a bent lampshade sitting on top of our TV unit - not sure what that was all about!!). The bed was solid and quite uncomfortable - however, not unlike the bed's we encountered throughout our holiday in China!
Overall - whilst our guest bedroom was 'good', it certainly was not 5 star quality or standard.
Unfortunately, this hotel seems to be used by many 'tour companies' and so we found it little 'too busy' and chaotic at check-in, check-out and during breakfast. On the subject of breakfast - the choices were good (not great) but trying to find someone to serve coffee/tea, proved to be a 'bit of a task' - when someone was found, the tea/coffee was cold - presumably because they simply walk around with the pot (until finished) and if you're 'at the end of the line', you get the cold stuff!!

I loved this hotel. The rooms were incredibly and uniquely designed and very large. In my room you could swing the TV around in a circle so you can watch it in the bath. Rooms were very well equipped. I had an issue with my bathroom (toilet wouldn't flush), the issue was resolved very quickly once I spoke to the manager and I was moved to an alternative room. This did highlight the fact that those on the front desk did not speak English that well (not a criticism as obviously I was in China, but just a statement).
Breakfast was also very good.

Room Tip: If you don't smoke ask for a non-smoking room, my first room smelt of stale smoke.
