“Great park to people watch!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 5, 2013

I've been to this park twice and the first time it was in November and it was pretty empty. But still there were a few people playing instruments and people in the teahouses. So it wasn't too exciting or interesting but the second time I went it was packed. There was about 3 different groups in different areas of the park dancing. Older folks doing traditional Chinese dance, younger kids dancing to electric/house music and another group doing a coordinated modern routine. Pretty fun to watch. Then there was the taichi group in another area and also older men writing Chinese characters on the ground. Overall the second time was amazing and our group had so much fun. Great park in the middle of the city.

“Our favorite afternoon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2013

We loved watching people practicing tai chi, wu shu, and badminton; the children playing with bubbles; and individuals of all ages strolling through the park. The tea house we found was lovely and we enjoyed a relaxing and fascinating afternoon.

“The Best Park in China”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

The moment I got into this park, I couldn't stop smiling. I've been to many parks in China, but the park that I remember the most is Chengdu's People's Park (Renmin Park is known also as People's Park and no wonder - there are so many people). The best time to be there is in the afternoon, then there are a lot of Chinese people doing a lot of things. You can really see their culture and happiness when walking around the park:
People dance and sing, watch small performances, play Chinese instruments, play cards, do Tai Chi, do movements with swords and the most beautiful thing, in my opinion: they write down old chinese poetry in calligraphy on the pavement with a huge, sponge brush and water. Afterwards the park keepers can use a water hose to wash the poetry away.
The park is beautiful - there are many trees and there is a small lake in the middle, where you can ride on small boats. There is also a part where they store small, interesting looking trees. And there's a place with chinese fish. And you can find a stand that sells sugar-candies in a very special way: you need to turn a wheel and it stops on a figure of an animal - the figure it stops on will turn into your candy. The seller will make the candy on the spot according to the figure that you got. It's really nice!
Wow! I really really loved People's Park. It's been almost a month since I've seen it, and I still smile when I think about it.

“A bustling oasis right in the heart of the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

As with all city parks in China, it is well maintained and used. A large free park convenient to downtown. A walk around at any time of day is well worth it to get a glimpse of the Chinese way of life. you will see people, dancing, exercising, practising taijichuan, calligraphy, playing musical instruments, playing chess or cards. It is the best way of experiencing all this in one place. Plus it is a lovely place.

“Good if you like people watching”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2012

This is a popular hang out for the locals and its also good if you want to drink some tea and have your ears cleaned!

The park, like a lot of public spaces in China is very well used and all sorts of activities are enjoyed by the locals.

Some people can be found sleeping, there are many groups doing various sorts of dancing, many are engaged in karaoke, theatre shows, exercise groups, dancing, etc.

If you decide to sample tea in the tea house in the park then be prepared to be approached by the infamous ear cleaners who will sell hard to convince you it's what you want and need.

If you do decide to do it then I recommend you haggle the price for sure as they will definitely be quoting a high price to start with.

one thing worth seeing is the old men practising calligraphy in the park with their large sponge brushes using a solution of water. They write classic chinese phrases and poetry which is eco friendly as it simply evaporates!
