The best hostel I stayed at in China, by far! Friendly, outgoing staff. Nice, clean rooms and modern, spacious communal area. Great bar (well used on my part!) and delicious food menu. Chengdu seems on a bit of a crossroads for travellers in China, so the hostel is very popular, and the communal area is buzzing with people to talk to.

Taken on a great 'whitewater' bike tour around the city streets by the manager Laura, and had a fantastic night out with two of the staff, Mae and Georgia (though I felt my age in the morning!) The panda tour is excellent, where the guide has the inside knowledge to whisk you around the zoo escaping the crowds and seeing the pandas at their best.

Can't recommend it more highly, one of the highlights of my holiday. Keep up the good work Flipflop!

English speaking staff who is extremely happy and helpful; very service minded. Cozy place with good hang-out area. Don't rely on the WiFi to work though and bring warm clothes (depending on when traveling) since there are no heaters in the south of China.

The hostel has the best staff I have experienced in China. They helped me with everything from printing documents to looking up my train schedule. My room was cosy and warm, which is not the standard in december in China. The beds in the dorms have curtains and their own lamp and socket so you can have a bit of privacy and you get your own locker. There were three more girls and we shared one bathroom which was spotless clean. I arrived late at night and hostel staff recommended great streetfood to me as the kitchen was closed. Breakfast was delicious and very well priced. From outside the hostel you can easily get taxis to the Panda base or the train station. Can definitely recommend it.

Really nice common space, very comfortable private room. Definitely recommend the cooking class. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Sometimes our bathroom inexplicably settled like smoke, but we were able to switch rooms without a problem.

We stayed here for 5 nights and absolutely loved it! The staff were really friendly and welcoming, the reception area is a great hang out place for those looking to meet our travellers, our room was clean and tidy and the location was really close to a metro station. We highly recommend this hostel.

We couldn't find anything wrong with this place, really. Didn't try much of the food, but given the proximity to some of the hottest hotpot, and best Baozi for breakfast, we didn't have any need.
Get a taxi out to the pandas first thing in the morning, be there EARLY. You won't regret it. Also stay at this hostel, it's ideal.

First, Chengdu is a great city, so that's one reason to go to Flip Flop.

Flip Flop is an excellent hostel. It's also just a very-well run and efficient business and I admire and respect that. It's quite large, but it also has a very large lounge area indoors as well as a really nice rooftop that is underutilized by the guests but worth a stroll up for a few drinks or a morning coffee. it doesn't really get too crowded, even on weekends.

The beds are fairly typical but clean and with one crucial adaptation, a curtain around each bed for privacy. I found that to be a really nice touch because it's always a bit awkward when you're lying in bed and someone strolls in and is changing or doing whatever and your eyes inevitably meet or you're doing all you can to stare in the opposite direction without being too weird. It's also just nice because it keeps your bed area fairly dark if you want to sleep while someone has the light on to do something. And if you need light and privacy, they've provided a bedside lamp for each bed. In addition, a well-placed outlet by each bed.

There's AC and heat if you need it but the weather was so crisp and cool when I was there I preferred to just keep it off.

The place smells great. Maybe it was the live plants hanging around or something but I couldn't help but think it smelled like Christmas, which isn't bad. The kitchen is open late and I never tried the food but it smelled great and the menu is extensive and reasonable. I had a cappuccino that was solid.

The staff is great and also just a lot of fun. May, Steve, and Georgia stood out to me. Georgia was exceptionally patient and detailed in her directions even though she probably gets asked the same thing 19 times a day. I appreciated that. She needs a raise.

It was also one of the quieter hostel rooms I've had. Maybe I lucked out with location in the actual hostel but my room was always very quiet and it's just not a noisy area.

The location is great, right near the really nice and huge walking street (among many in Chengdu) and maybe a 10 minute walk to the metro which is as good if not better than the Beijing metro. Lots of good restaurants nearby with a wide range of prices. SIchuan food is incredible. Be adventurous. Have fun. Go Flip Flop. Keep up the good work.
