We couldn't find anything wrong with this place, really. Didn't try much of the food, but given the proximity to some of the hottest hotpot, and best Baozi for breakfast, we didn't have any need.
Get a taxi out to the pandas first thing in the morning, be there EARLY. You won't regret it. Also stay at this hostel, it's ideal.

First, Chengdu is a great city, so that's one reason to go to Flip Flop.

Flip Flop is an excellent hostel. It's also just a very-well run and efficient business and I admire and respect that. It's quite large, but it also has a very large lounge area indoors as well as a really nice rooftop that is underutilized by the guests but worth a stroll up for a few drinks or a morning coffee. it doesn't really get too crowded, even on weekends.

The beds are fairly typical but clean and with one crucial adaptation, a curtain around each bed for privacy. I found that to be a really nice touch because it's always a bit awkward when you're lying in bed and someone strolls in and is changing or doing whatever and your eyes inevitably meet or you're doing all you can to stare in the opposite direction without being too weird. It's also just nice because it keeps your bed area fairly dark if you want to sleep while someone has the light on to do something. And if you need light and privacy, they've provided a bedside lamp for each bed. In addition, a well-placed outlet by each bed.

There's AC and heat if you need it but the weather was so crisp and cool when I was there I preferred to just keep it off.

The place smells great. Maybe it was the live plants hanging around or something but I couldn't help but think it smelled like Christmas, which isn't bad. The kitchen is open late and I never tried the food but it smelled great and the menu is extensive and reasonable. I had a cappuccino that was solid.

The staff is great and also just a lot of fun. May, Steve, and Georgia stood out to me. Georgia was exceptionally patient and detailed in her directions even though she probably gets asked the same thing 19 times a day. I appreciated that. She needs a raise.

It was also one of the quieter hostel rooms I've had. Maybe I lucked out with location in the actual hostel but my room was always very quiet and it's just not a noisy area.

The location is great, right near the really nice and huge walking street (among many in Chengdu) and maybe a 10 minute walk to the metro which is as good if not better than the Beijing metro. Lots of good restaurants nearby with a wide range of prices. SIchuan food is incredible. Be adventurous. Have fun. Go Flip Flop. Keep up the good work.

I stayed here on a recent trip to Cheng Du. The location was good, not far from the train station or shops. The hostel helped me to organise a trip to see the panda's which was brilliant. The room was big, clean and good enough for my 2 night stay. The staff could speak good enough English too.

This is the best hostel I've ever stayed in. And I have stayed in quite a few in my travels. The rooms are great, the bathroom is superclean, location is good and the staff is the best! All of them are very friendly and helpful. When I was there, there was a halloween party with free hotpot and a lot of very cool games. Awesome hostel! Highly recommended!

The best thing about this hostel are the staff!!! They are so helpful and really go the extra mile to help you out! And trust me, you need it in china if you can't speak chines! (One girl wrote down a food dish we liked on a pice of paper...and it so saved us many times in restaurants! So thank you!)
The hostel is great, great lounge room, you can meet a lot of new people, great tours (panda tour, really good, early to beat the crowed), good activities, good prices on food and drinks, good options for washing your clothes however the beds are horrible hard!! We stayed for 3 nights and we survived... So I would recommend this place just cuz the staff is amazing and you might need some English speaking chines guiding on your way through china... And the hard mattresses will only make you stronger and appreciate the bed back home!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Flipflop. The staff were all lovely and helpful, and we enjoyed speaking to them. The Chinese food served in the restaurant/bar was excellent quality which was great for when we arrived and were too tired to go out restaurant hunting. The double room we stayed in was excellent. Sparkling clean, a good size with a great shower. The beds are quite hard but that's pretty standard in Asia. Easy walk to the metro, and to the bus station where we were dropped off. The hostel run lots of tours, but we visited things on our own so can't comment on the quality of them. We would definitely stay here again!

This hostel has a huge social area in the main floor with a bar, pool table, football table and loads of different seating areas so its great to meet loads of people like we did.
The rooms however were not that great, we stayed in a 4 bed dorm and the bunk beds were metal & really squeaky every time you climbed onto the top bunk, the mattresses were thin & rock hard and the privacy curtain was hanging off in places. The lockers were way too small to actually lock a backpack in so we just had to lock our valuables in there.
The hostel put on cycling & walking tours which are good and also do a trip to the panda breeding research centre. Entry is normally 53RBM and the hostel do a trip for 118RBM which included entry & transportation which we thought was reasonable. They also take you really early (pick up at 07:10) so that you see the pandas whilst active and you beat the crowds which believe me is a god send as when we were leaving the centre at midday, there was a sea of people arriving! The hostel also do a free Dumpling party every Friday and they will teach you how to make traditional Sichuan dishes for 100RBM.
All in all this hostel is in a good location and is very social so is great to meet people
