I hadn’t planned on visiting the museum, but due to a rainy day and needing to get my 6 year old out of the hotel I decided we’d give it a go. It was easy to get to as it is off the central square where the big statue of Mao is - in fact is directly behind the statue. The ticket office is just outside the doors to the right as you approach. You will receive a map of the museum which is in English and Chinese.
I had low expectations - thinking that it would be a bit run down, outdated, and over used. We were are pleasantly surprised at all the different exhibits (space/air/light/weight/sound/technology) and hands on activities.
Some exhibits are in need of repair, or updating but only a few. We visited in early January and I don’t think they heat the place - it was chilly so you’ll want to dress warm if there during the winter. There are some snack items for sale but not a lot of selection.
The place is huge - 4 floors and while we were there (weekday) it was pretty empty. My daughter had a blast and it was the perfect way to spend a rainy day. I wouldn’t say it’s a must do while in Chengdu but its a great indoor option when you need it!
