Owner description: Luodai is an ancient town just outside Chungdu. The buildings date back to the 1600's. The main street is 1km long with ancient buildings on either side containing shops, craftsmen and restaurants. There are a number of dress and costume shops where people dress up to have their photo taken. It is easy to reach by either bus or taxi from Chengdu. The journey is c. 20km and takes about 45-60 mins. On a Sunday it is busy with local torists. Many of the shops and street vendors are of the native Hakka tribe. Well worth a visit for half a day.

Tourist trap! It's like a Chinese version of Tennessee's Gatlinburg. If you have a choice between this and another site, choose the other site!

Lovely and quaint area with lots of history. Great place for a bit of shopping and sample some tasty treats.

Well, we were told that there are a lot of ancient towns around Cheng Du, and some people recommended Luodai to us cause is near and interesting.

Luodai is just a reformed town, which has became just a touristic point. Nothing special here, just some shopping areas and a bunch of food stands in which bugs are served. We tried scorpions and other stuff, was the first time we ate such food and was funny.

I reccomend to arrange a cab haggling some to reach the Luodai Great Wall (just like 10 or 15 minutes away from Luodai) and take a look around over there, is the most interesting thing and its free entry If I remind well.

It's just another so called "ancient town" which mushroomed around Chengdu. It boasts Hakka atmosphere but nothing is different from the surrounding Sichuanese towns. No Hakka food is served and I never met a person speaking Hakka dialect. I even visited a side alley but I heard everyone speaking Sichuanese dialect there. When asked, they said that they spoke Sichuanese instead of Hakka dialect for business needs. But their business is to show visitors their Hakka legacy. Why don't they even speak their own dialect? Can they?

It takes a while to get there but it made for a relaxing day after two weeks of solid working. Great atmoipshere away from the worst of the CTU polution.
