“Good place to stay for connections”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

We only stayed here for one night because it is very close to the main bus station in Chengdu so perfect if you are venturing to Jiuzhaigou, Mt Emei etc. it was simple but clean and all you needed it to be really. Would recommend staying here.

I stayed here for a few days while awaiting my flight back to Singapore after returning from Larung Gar at Sertar. The accommodation is cleaned every day with toothbrushes and slippers provided, toilet paper is provided in the toilets (both Western style and Asian squatting style). There is free wifi and you can access Facebook. The staff are all very helpful and can help you arrange trips to the surrounding areas such as Jiuzhaigou and the panda breeding area as well as tours to Tibet. I would like to express my gratitude in particular to Coco, who helped to make me feel welcome there.

Were in our early 60’s. Our prerequisites and not necessary in this order are; Location; (√) clean; (√) quiet; (√) Wi-Fi; (√) being able to communicate with staff. (√). Location was great. So many buses run 200mtrs from here, or the new metro line 1 the other way, about 700 metres from here. Construction is under way for Metro line 3 with a station about 200mtrs from their door. Staff were always friendly and so willing to help. No street noise. A couple of automatic washing m/c’s at ¥20 a go, including soap powder. We had a twin bed with private bath at ¥180 a night. The shower had a curtain with a brick lip on the floor, so no water escaped onto the rest of the bathroom floor. Wi fi reception was always good+. Even with the stingy toilet paper rolls that are common in China, we could extra by smiling at the maid. We had 5 nights here and had no complaints. Made our own way out to the irrigation system and mountains using the metro to North train station and then a fast (not bullet only got to 200kph) train

I can only second the good ratings that have been posted so far.
The location is very convenient, just next to the long distance bus station from where you can not only travel to all sights around Chengdu, but also to multiple destinations within China.

The room was well-priced, clean and convenient, the shared facilicities were very well taken care of, always spotless.

The staff was friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was very nice, laid-back but also well-regulated and safe.
We would highly recommend this place for a stay in Chengdu.

The Traffic Inn is directly at the Xinanmen Bus Station, which makes it ideal if you're travelling by bus. The airport bus stops just a ten minute walk away from here.

I really liked the service here, all staff were always around to answer querstions, write notes in chinese characters for shops and ticket offices, found cheap flights and even posted my camera, which I dropped underneath my bed. Thanks so much for that!

Beds are really comfortable as well and they keep their hostel really clean.

The only thing that never really worked out quite well is the breakfast in the morning. Even though you preorder it for 7am, they prepare it when you show up. So lots of guests have to wait ages, if they all go on a trip in the morning.

All in all a nice place to hang around, would return any time!

Stayed here for two nights in may to visit the pandas near chengdu which were fantastic. Our experience of traffic inn, unfortunately was not. It started off well but slowly went down hill. We checked in to a twin room which was lovely and had a nice Mediterranean feel to it and the beds were the comfiest in china so far. The only downsides to the room were the lack of proper lock on the door, only a padlock, and there was no safe in the room. We also had to request room cleaning as it was not automatically done every day. The shared bathroom was functional and clean most of the time if a little smelly. The major let downs to this place are the food and the staff. We decided to eat in on our first night but were majorly disappointed. The portions were small for the money compared to elsewhere and I ordered some noodles which were far too salty, so much so that I could not eat them. My friend had rice which was also salty but still edible. When we notified staff their solution was just to add more hot water and to stir the food, needless to say the salt was still in the food and it was inedible. We also ordered brownies and ice cream for afters which was also very disappointing, we were unable to notify the staff as they did not come to clear the table until after we left, they seemed a whole lot more interested in flirting with the male guest. Breakfast the next morning was also terrible, we ordered the night before as instructed as we were going on panda tour and went down at 7am as instructed. The oatmeal didn't look appetising but tasted ok, however the pancakes were a disaster, the sauce was horrible and the pancakes tasted like they had been 'cooked' the night before if cooked at all!! When we told staff they looked at us blankly and offered no solution, they tried to tell us that's how the Chinese did pancakes when its clearly not. It took us asking for a refund for them to give us our money back or offer another choice. We were also kept waiting for the panda tour as other guests had been allowed to join the tour that morning with out pre-ordering breakfast and so we were half an hour late leaving. We made extra effort to order the night before as we were told we would have to miss breakfast otherwise and we did not want to keep others waiting. The young man on the front desk was not helpful in the matter and insisted that we would still see the pandas and offered no apology whatsoever. If i had known we were going to be kept waiting so long i could have ordered another choice of breakfast but we were not notified of this.
On top of all this we had trouble trying to get food that evening too, we clearly didnt want order from the in house kitchen and when we said we fancied western food the lady at the front desk refused to help and said we really should be trying Chinese food if we are in china, is a girl not allowed one western dish in her 3weeks in china, frankly its none of her business. we ended up getting noodles from the noodle shop on the corner down the road but were not impressed by the staffs attitude. We also asked for a taxi to be arranged to take us to the airport the next morning as my friend has a damage shoulder so cant carry her rucksack easily. we were told that that would be fine however when asking again the next morning for one to be arranged at 9am we were told that wouldn't be possible as the driver wasn't working that day and why didn't we just walk to the airport shuttle stop instead. There was also a persistent smell of sewage in the downstairs lounge area and we went down to breakfast on both days to find the tables still not cleared from the night before. We were really unimpressed by the staffs lazy and can't be bothered attitude, seems like the staff here need some proper training and extra guidance on what is expected in modern hostels.

I stayed at the Traffic Inn for 2 weeks while participating in a Sichuan cooking course. The accommodations are quite basic, but the staff does a great job of keeping things clean, and the overall atmosphere is quite enjoyable, with lots of friendly folks coming and going. The hostel staff was great--some of them speak good English and are quite helpful. The location is quite central and easy to find (I would print out a map ahead of time, though). This is definitely not a business hotel (a friend's airport pickup was bungled, and the young kids working there win points for friendliness, not for professional training), but as long as you go in with your expectations set properly, you will not be disappointed. Really excellent value.
