I stayed here for three nights with 3 friends - we stayed in a four-dorm, then a two-dorm with a private bathroom (and two of us in a 6-dorm), then a 6-dorm on our last night. This was mostly because of our late planning and we didn't book ahead for three nights which meant we moved around a bit - but it was fine, the staff was very helpful when we weren't sure what we were doing.

I've never stayed in a hostel before but this was really nice for how much it cost. I paid about $22 USD for my three nights there. The hostel had basic rooms, clean beds/sheets. There's a common lobby area and they are nicely decorated with photos and these cool paper cut-out things giving it some charm.

The shared bathrooms were pretty clean and tidy for being shared. They also provide toilet paper, which is great.

Location is excellent, as you can walk to the metro station and the bus station is literally next door, a block or so down. There's a bus stop outside you can take to the Giant Panda Research Breeding Base, I think it was bus 109 - but it went in the most roundabout loop/route ever and it took a little over an hour to get there, when it really should have been maybe about 30 minutes or so. This was after we spent 45 minutes waiting for the bus to start up - so if your time is valuable - might be better to take a cab.

My only problem was that a cleaning lady took my personal towel that I brought with me and used it to clean the rooms with (I'm assuming), because when I found it, it was thrown over the side of a cleaning cart and had to be wrung dry. It didn't even remotely look like the hotel towels, and I really don't know how it could have gotten mixed up, which was rather annoying. Mostly because there's a sign on the door that noted rooms would only be cleaned if we asked for them to be. This was when I was in a four-dorm, so make sure to lock up all your stuff and it should be fine - I just forgot the towel but figured since we'd be back in a few hours it wouldn't make a difference - guess I was wrong. Seeing as I was paying $7 USD a night, it didn't seem like I could really complain to the staff.

Overall, great place in a good location.

I stayed in a 4-bed dorm, that was very clean and provided hotel-like commodities, like free tea, a new towel every day, toothbrushes... Wireless covers the entire hostel.Front desk staff speaks good Englsh and is very helpful. They can arrange popular excursions like Tibet permits, volunteer programs at the panda base, and so on.
The location can't be beat, 10 min walk from the subway and next door to the Xinnanmen bus station that has buses to Jiuzhaigou, Leshan, Kangding, Mt Emei... Very handy as most of these coaches leave very early in the morning. You are also a 5-mn walk from a post office, supermarkets and a bunch of authentic restaurants, including a hot pot one, a Beijing duck joint, a Muslim food stall and many other hole-in-the-wall places.
I peeked into some individual rooms on the first floor and they are a bit grim, basically a room with a bed and a lightbulb.

Budget place but they speak english. (whether you understand each other is another thing) The location is actually in the middle of 2 subway stations. You need to have your map with you as street directions in china is still iffy at the moment. If you find yourself at the somerset, its just down the road.
We had a triple ensuite. Room condition was good and surprisinlgy the bathroom was pretty ok. Take note if you remove the toilet stop when water flow is slow, rememberto close it or the black flies will come out.
Hotel/hostel is setback from the main road and you will see traffic hotel signage. walk thru the driverway headed left to see traffic inn.
bus for the panda research centre starts just outside.

Room Tip: Block of rooms that hotel allocates to the inn is pretty good.

Easy to reach from the train station via the metro - we used Jinjiang Hotel metro stop which is around 10mins walk from the hostel.

Staff were very friendly and seemed eager to help. We stayed in a double room with a private shower and bathroom. Some aspects could be cleaner - the bedroom carpet was a little stained and the shower cubicle leaked a weird muddy substance onto the floor outside the shower.

There is a restaurant serving food throughout the day and drinks in the evening. It seemed like a good hostel for meeting other travellers.

Location was ideal for us - close to a metro stop, and just around the corner from Xinnanmen tourist bus station for trips to Leshan and other destinations. We also went on the trip organised by the hostel to the Panda Centre. It left at 7.30am and dropped us back at the hostel around midday. It is probably cheaper to get there via other means but this gets you there nice and early and is hassle-free!

My family recently spent several nights at the Traffic Inn in Chengdu. We were immediately impressed. The rooms, including the ensuite bathrooms, were large and clean. The restaurant served a wide variety of tasty and inexpensive food. My children enjoyed the ping-pong tables, hula-hoops, badminton and wide selection of movies. The best part of the Traffic Inn was the staff. Their English was great and they helped us to arrange several tours, bus rides and train rides. The Traffic Inn was very centrally located and it was easy to access the sights walking and using taxis. The Traffic Inn was a great place to stay in Chengdu and I would recommend it to anyone.

We are a couple and stayed for 4 nights at a private room. We got a twin bed room when we actually asked for a double, but the situation was easily fixed by joining the beds side by side. The room had a private shower and bathroom.
The room was quite clean, only the carpet could be more tidy, but overal ok. The staff were great, young people with good sense of humor, good English, helpful and gladly provided information about trips and tours in the area.
The place has it's own cosy cafe and we also tried their Thai restaurant which was pretty good.
location is great, super close to the Xiananmen bus station, which our trips out of town much simpler. However bear in mind that not all buses return to the same station, but go to a different one in Chengdu which is quite far. So worth consulting the reception staff regarding that.
The wiify didn't work in the room for Mar of the time, but communal areas and the cafe had a decent connection.
It was a comfortable, pleasent stay and we would not hesitate staying there again.

We stayed 5 nights at Traffic Inn, after busy couple of weeks we needed somewhere cheap to chill out - this place was perfect. We had a double with shared bathroom - it was clean, bed was comfy and cheap. The shared bathroom was ok - sometimes could get a litle smelly by the night time.
We booked through the Traffic hostel but actually stayed in the traffic hotel building - I've read that its sometimes cheaper to go directly through the hotel.
The hostel staff were friendly and very helpful - booked us train tickets to Guilin for a small charge. The food at the hostel was good and the local beer was cheap 8Y
Location wise - very central - next to a local market, by the river and the local tourist bus to see the pandas stops right outside (only 2 Y one way to the pandas - much cheaper than a tour!)
