Standard ways of the world. U gain some, u loose some. This hotel gains in price and location, so no prizes for guessing what it looses on. It's slightly older then others, decorations are not that top notch, restaurant is not really international standard etc...

Located right in the middle of chengdu's chunxi road, it's where all the shopping and food action is. Definitely a good choice for budget travelers who enjoy shopping and trying out local delights. Starbucks are littered all around (I lost count on how many there are) and KFC and Mac Donald's are around the corner for people who can't take the local taste.

It's not run down, not dirty. Rooms are a little small, carpet a bit worn. But definitely stay able. One thing to note, the sound insulation is not v good though. Might be a deal breaker to some, but then again maybe all budget hotels are like that? Note : there are many such budget hotels around. As I didn't get to try them all out, I can only give my opinion of this one.

As it is right in the middle of town, it gets bloody crowded in the day and getting a cab during peak hours is mission impossible. Fortunately, the subway is ten min walk away.

Worth staying for people going to chengdu, and if u don't like it, just hop around other hotels similar to this! There is another hotel few blocks away from Phoenix, I can't recall the name ..... Should be around the same standard.

First, I have to commend the front desk staff for their patience with me. I was on Chunxi Road and thought the hotel was on the main pedestrian street, but after having walked up and down the stretch of the street several times, in the rain, and couldn't find it, and having asked several passersby to no avail, I decided to call them. They stayed on the phone with me guiding me to the hotel, no easy task given their limited English and my limited Chinese.

Location. It is on an alleyway off Chunxi Road, just a few seconds' walk away from the center of the action (well, shopping, that is). Not that hard to find if you're familiar with the area, but quite so if not. If you're walking from Zongfu street go to the big square in the middle, take a right and then another right. For such a hidden hotel it was surprisingly not that small.

Room. Quite modern and clean. Bed was comfortable, soft by Chinese standards, facing a workdesk and flatscreen tv (no foreign channels). It wasn't exactly big, but not cramped. Let's say efficient. Bathroom had shower only, with a transparent window looking into bedroom. I've read a lot of reviews on TA where this was something to make note of, but I've stayed in a lot of hotels in China with these kind of windows separating the bath and sleep areas and it doesn't bother me one bit. There is a curtain so it's not like it's permanently transparent. Internet is included. There were two complimentary bottles of water and tea packets, but no coffee.

There is almost no English anywhere in the hotel, including the literature in the lobby and in the room.

Service. As stated above, the front desk staff is excellent. When I checked in it was a madhouse, but they seemed to be patient with everybody. They were clearly understaffed at that time, or the hotel was unusually busy. I got there at around noon, and they told me they had no rooms ready yet, but could check out the room (being cleaned at the time) they were going to assign me to see if it was okay. I went up and saw that the room had no windows, so I went back down to ask for one with a window. They gave me another room, but the window was useless, facing a nondescript building. When I asked again they said all of their rooms with windows were pretty much like that, there was nothing facing the street. Of course, this was not the fault of the staff, and they were kind to explain it to me. I had booked this room for two nights and checked out after one because of lack of views, and the front desk was very understanding about it. I know of other hotels that would charge you the two nights anyway, but they didn't.

There is a small lobby shop for necessities, but if that doesn't do the trick there are at least 2 24-hour convenience stores within a block or two of the hotel.

I would gladly stay here again if there were decent views, and the absence of this is probably the biggest drawback. You might like this for the friendly (but with very little English) staff, the decent location, and the low price.
