Loved the location of this one. The rooms are clean and roomy. English is well spoken by the staff and we found all members of the staff to be happy, friendly and supportive.
We would stay here again if we returned to Chengdu.

When we arrived at this hotel at 1.00 a.m. we were surprised to find that the hotel, and indeed most of the street, was covered in scaffolding. We had changed our booking from a related hostel after reading a bad review on tripadvisor but the hotel had not advised us that work would be taking place during our stay (well they wouldn't, would they!). As we arrived so late at night we had no choice but to book in. We were given a fairly basic breakfast as compensation for the noise and disruption of the works. Clearly others who had arrived at a more decent hour had cancelled as the hotel seemed fairly empty. The staff advised us that the works would be completed soon although we weren't so sure due to the extent of the works and we wouldn't be surprised if the scaffolding was still in place in a couple of months.

Like one of the previous reviewers we found the check-in process to be quite protracted as we were made to pay for the room and a deposit. In addition we were made to sign a waiver as we did not want a safe (although we later changed our minds as the windows to our room were not secure so a safe was necessary). However, we did not think it good customer care for the hotel to be dealing with such matters at such an hour when we just wanted to go to bed. The process could easily have waited until the morning.

We also found some of the information supplied by the staff to be confusing. When we enquired about tours we were given several different prices, the price rising on each occasion. When we asked if we could check out a bit later as one of us was ill they said that the room was needed for another guest (despite the hotel seeming empty) but if we wanted to pay more we could stay until 6.00 p.m. Presumably the new hotel guest would have had to wait until that time to book in. There were several other incidents which added to our perception of confusion. We're not sure what the problem was. Maybe the staff were distracted by the works or, possibly, their high tripadvisor rating has caused some complacency. Whatever the reason we weren't impressed which is a pity really as the hotel has some positive aspects (when works aren't being carried out). Our room was large, well equipped and reasonably clean. The hotel is in a good location, near to a Sichuan opera house, and the tour we took to the panda centre was good value and the driver was helpful.

Overall, we weren't that impressed by the hotel but maybe they'll improve once works have been completed.

On a more positive note we found a good restaurant nearby. Every night of our stay in Chengdu we ate at Shu Feng Yuan, an upstairs restaurant which is just along the road from the hotel. The food there was excellent and some of the staff could speak enough English for us to communicate. We didn’t see any other Westerners eating in the restaurant but we were made to feel welcome, and we suspect the staff enjoyed the novelty and the opportunity to practise their English.

My husband, myself and our two children aged 10 and 12 stayed here for three nights in December. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly, they even allowed us to store our luggage free of charge when we travelled up to Jiuzhaigou. Our family room was more than spacious enough and very clean. While the food was a little pricey by Chengdu standards our children really enjoyed the burgers we had one evening. we didn't book any tours through the hotel but there were plenty available if you need them to arrange these for you.

Stayed there just one night with friends. It is located along Qintai road, very easy to find. 3 of us stayed in normal western style room while another 2 stayed in chinese style room. The reception is very friendly and helpful, she also help us to get car service to the airport early morning. They have a very special lounge and free wifi. Room is a bit old some part but overall clean and acceptable. Definitely value for money.

I stayed here with a Chinese friend for 9 days, during which Vicky arranged a trip to Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou for us. I travelled solo from UK to Wuhan to meet my travelling companion Chen Jie and everything I had hoped for was realized.

We gathered a group of 9 friends for a long weekend trip to Chengdu, and decided to forgo the usualy luxuries of a Sheraton or Hyatt type hotel and try this little inn because the photos on its website rouse my curiosity. It is built like an old Chinese inn from centuries back.

The rates are really cheap at about US$35 per double room. If you are a group of backpackers they even have a large room for sharing for US$8 pp. I would describe this hotel as charming. It is relatively clean and makes an attempt to give the rooms themes..like Western style or Chinese styles. Room size decent. The bathroom was very very basic, shower was tiny, and bathroom had a pungent sewer smell the whole time. If you decide to stay here do bring scented candles or incense. The hotel left a notebook on the wall that allows guests to write their opinions and feedback. I read them all (all written in Chinese) and was pleased that hotel allow other guests to see both positive and negative feedbacks.

Basically, the rooms will be hit and miss depending on which one you get. Aside from the sewer smell in the bathroom ours were fine. But our friends who stayed in the family room with their toddler hated theirs..said it was stuffy, room not clean and mosquitoes everywhere. They tried to switch rooms but were told that the hotel was fully booked. Our other friends all thought their rooms were ok.

The best thing for the western travelers is that the front desk staff speaks English. They also can arrange for car services to drive you to sight-see, and their prices are reasonable. They sell bottle waters and beers downstairs for normal price too which was great. On rainy days the hotel provides unbrellas to guests. For a little inn, the services are way more than adequate. They take care of their guests.

Hotel has a courtyard with a bar and provides board games and mahjong for recreation. I liked the courtyard bar very much and regretted that we didn't have a chance to hang out there at night.

Breakfast was so-so. They serve food at the courtyard bar and my friends who hated their rooms thought the food off the menu was fine (they were the only ones who had a chance to eat there). Prices very cheap.

Hotel location is great IMO. Shops and restaurants right outside yet street not crowded at all. Short taxi ride to main parts of city. You can hear traffic noises from the street at night though so this place is not good for light sleepers.

I won't recommend this place to my friends only because we are all past backpacking age and we stayed here because we wanted a unique experience of an ancient Chinese Inn. But for travelers on a budget I'd say this place is just fine and way better than a hostel. It's also got much more charm and much more personal service than a cheap local hotel of the same price.

We stayed here for just over a week with a side trip to Juizhaighou organised through the hotel. Qintai street was just fantastic. You have got to try the hotpot fungi restaurant over the road. No, it's not too spicy! Two lovely parks are very close 1 over the road and the other at the end of the street. The hotel itself was very comfortable and well organised with helpful staff.
