“Interesting”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

Interesting to see. Let down a bit by its surroundings at the moment. Much of the old city in Datong was knocked down some years ago. They are though rebuilding a replica of the old palace that the 'screen' used to be in front of, so suggest visit in a few years time

“Nine Dragon Wall”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2012

This 600 year old and supposedly largest glazed wall in China is well preserved and wonderfully looking. However, it's marvel has been diminished due to so many similar or identical looking Nine Dragon Wall all over China and the rest of the world.

“A bit disappointing”

Far less beautiful than the nine dragon screen in the Forbidden City in Beijing. Can be skipped, unlike the Yungang Grottoes or the hanging temple that are in the Datong area.

“Yes, it just a screen...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012

It's down an non-descript street, and around a corner. Very large, and in fact hard to photograph to give true idea of size ( height and length ). There's a bit of a courtyard in front, and that's about it. In the middle of Old Datong and not easy to find; but also wonder around the general area and observe the old slum areas being knocked over to re-create "Old Datong" again!
I'm fascinated by some of the construction techniques used in small scale domestic architecture - so was a happy chappy.

The wall with history was interesting. The price of 10 RMB was good. Not much to see. We spent about 10-15 minute at this site. It is in town and with in walking distance from the Garden Hotel.
