This came up on the itinerary with China Odyssey tours. It was worth the visit and one of the few Pagodas in China that stands out from the rest. It was built with nails and has started to lean to one side so visitors can no longer go up inside the Pagoda and can only walk on the ground floor.

Would I do it again, probably not. But it was worth seeing and I would recommend visiting if you are in the area.

If you are into history or architecture, then this place is definitely worth the visit. The entry fee to actually get into the pagoda was expensive, but I felt that it was worth it. For the price of admission, you can enter the first floor of the pagoda and see the Buddha statue inside. You also get to see some of the wooden structural elements on the inside. And you can visit the area around the pagoda and some smaller temples behind it. Unfortunately, at least when I was there, we weren't able to go to any of the other floors of the pagoda.

Our tour guide said it was built in 1056 and remains a mystery to scientist to this day. I never went in, but it was a beautiful piece of architecture to analyze.

The pagoda is very nice, but not particularly noteworthy in appearance. It's age and construction are impressive and the huge Buddha statue inside it is awe inspiring. I did it after the hanging temple and I feel it was worth the drive. The town of Yingxian does not see many foreigners, so expect friendly curiosity from the locals. I recommend seeing it if you can, but giving it a miss if time is short.
