Honestly, this was one of the most incredible places I've ever been -- I would say right up there with Sophia Hagia, and the Blue Mosque. It was truly awe inspiring.

“Out of this world”

It is really nice to see the temple and walk around it. Really recommendable and it is easy to combine this excursion with the grottoes (also highly recommendable). It is not for the faint hearted though, as I sometimes was wondering whether the flimsy poles that support the temple would hold under my weight.

“Incredible!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013 via mobile

A temple literally hanging in the middle of the mountain. We hiked it, we climbed it, we had the best time of our life there. And we found peace at the top of the temple. We were lucky we were the only visitors at that time. Our pictures couldn't be better.

“Amazing Temple but overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2013 via mobile

The drive is about an hour. The ticket is overpriced considering the long drive and taxi fare. Everything can be easily be seen and done in under an hour's time. It is however still worth visiting since it truly is a marvel. The monastery supports itself from the original beams and is built alongside a mountain. The figures of gods inside the temple look a bit creepy even from a Chinese Buddhist upbringing point of view lol. I do not recommend going during high season as you will be frustrated by the wait time to climb up the temple since it is a narrow entrance and only permits single file in and out.

“This is just a spectacular site worth driving the long way”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2013

The Hanging Temple is located in the HengShan Mountain. It is actuall only about 20 minutes drive away from the HunYuan County. The main road goes right in front of the Temple parking Lot. we find that it is in the valley that the river is already gone. the temple is still hanging above in the cliffs.

The best way to get here is to use a taxi or private transfer. We find it about one and half hours drive from Datong to Hanging temple. and we then head to the direction of WuTainShan, the time we left the temple was about 15:00. By the time we checked into the hotel in wutaishan was after 19:00. Make sure that you need to leave not too late, because there are so many trucks on this road carrying coal and other good. they drive fast and crazy.
