“Worth the Entrance Fee”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

We were skeptical of paying to enter a church, which should be a place of worship that welcomes everyone in the first place, but eventually caved in and bought tickets as the church looked nice from the main entrance. The church is a pretty and quaint building that's great for photos. The worship hall itself isn't spectacular but the clock tower offers some nice views if you're up for climbing the narrow steps.

“Spiritual Heritage still going strong! Don't miss bookstore.”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

Visited right after the Governors Residence- within about one block walk. Need to climb some steep stairs to the reach the entrance. There is a fee to enter the grounds. When we visited there were a group of art students doing pencil sketches of the beautiful building.
Entered the downstairs- main sanctuary- mid afternoon about 2pm. They were playing pipe organ inspirational music. Sanctuary is traditional wood pews and stained glass windows. Go back to church entrance hand ticket stub to auntie readying her Bible reach the clock tower. Old stairs are very steep and you might be winded by the time you reach the top. Might also have to give way to those coming down at same time.
Reaching the top- is worth the views of Qingdao harbor. Can see the lighthouse on the Little Qingdao- wonderful place for a photo. We were there on the 1/2 hour so were surprised by the short ring of the bell. How much more fun would it be there to hear it on the hour.
Original German clock works operating a century later.
Be careful on your way down.
When exploring the grounds there is a Christian book & gift store in the corner. Great place to pick up Chinese Bibles, Chinese Christian books and some fun Christian-themed gifts. Friendly auntie was listening to a teaching on marriage when we entered and gave good recommendations on book for the topic we showed interest. She advised church building is still being used like any other building- expanding the kingdom after over 100 years.
What a blessing- do not miss the bookstore pick up more than ordinary souvenirs.

“Disfigured by Lighting equipment”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Yes, definitely go up the clock tower if you can. There is a sign saying that old people and children have to be accompanied.
It is a very simple church but has pretty good energy. I loved the blue stain glass windows. The really sad part is that there is all that lighting equipment like in a film studio on the walls and on the balustrade of the balcony. This really disfigures the churches interior.
Look down at the floor, there are great tiles.
The building itself is well maintained.
Note: Within walking distance is Signal Hill for great views.

“Great looking church”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

This church looks great on the outside. Unfortunately there's not much to look at on the inside except for a few original stained glass windows.

“Good example of Lutheran Church”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

This is a good example of a Lutheran Protestant Church, and I would suggest coupling it with a visit to the nearby Catholic Church so you can contrast and compare.

When we arrived there were the obligatory wedding couples having their photos taken outside! Small fee to get in. It has nice grounds, quite pleasent to sit in.

The church has some interesting stained glass windows and a tower to go up. Very interesting to see the large clock.
