This was an awful museum. The ticket was rather expensive compare to other museums and didn't worth the price at all! There wasn't much to see except the appearance which visitors didn't have to pay for. It was lame inside cause there were only some cells and fake men. You can actually end the tour within 15 mins. Honestly speaking, I think this is the worst attraction of Qingdao.

This place gave me the creeps. I came in the morning and was the first tourist to enter the museum. I'd agree with the previous reviews that this is NOT the place for the faint hearted as they did display some black and white photos of German soldiers beheading Chinese criminals. And, unfortunately there is very little in English.

Going through the prison is what gave me the heebeejeebees. I'd walk in the prison. No one else was in the building and no one else came in with me. Silence. Then, all of the sudden these "people" (wax figures) appear out of no where!

Going through the dungeon also gave me the creeps as the Japanese invented "water boarding" as a form of torcher. Also the death chambers are located on the same floor.

It was free when I visited.

“Interesting but displays do not have information in English”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

Interesting buildings and history but would be more interesting with information in English. Our kids enjoyed being in an old prison and looking around it. Some of the photos were gruesome however, so if you have sensitive children you may not wish to take them here. RMB 25 per person, discount for kids under 1.4m height. Located very close Protestant Church and Tianhou Temple.
