“Excellent breakfasts, friendly, relaxing atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2011

Our family really enjoyed going to the Kiwi cafe in Qingdao. In fact we went there twice - for breakfast each time. Well worth it. Reaonsably priced breakfasts and made just like home! Eggs benedict, poached eggs, blueberry pancakes etc. We found out that the owner, Danny, is a chef who spent considerable time in NZ owning 3 cafes in Auckland in the last 20 years. He also bakes his own cakes including Tiramisu and Cheesecake. Offers NZ wine, lamb and beef dishes for dinner. And he was showing the rugby world cup live on TV while we were there - we were sad we missed it as we were stuck in Beer St on Friday night with no taxi that would pick us up! Nevermind. This cafe is well worth a visit while you are in Qingdao and we will go again!

“A little slice of home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2011

Saw a right up about this restaurant in one of the local expat mags. Thought we would drop in and have a meal to support a fellow Kiwi. It is run by Danny who lived in NZ for 18 years. While there he ran several restaurants and attended a chefs school. Got to say it was a sight for sore eyes and my belly thanked me for it.

His menu is not extensive but he has all the basics. He does an all day breakfast plus some goumet sandwiches plus pizzas. I had the BLT and my husband had the eggs Benedict. Loved them both. We also had fruit smoothies which were delicious.

The restaurant is comfortable and features large arm-chairs. Price is reasonable. He stocks NZ magazines and really does embrace a Kiwi atmosphere. There are pictures of famous Kiwis that had visited his restaurants in NZ on his walls. All up- it was a great visit and left us feeling a little homesick. Well done Danny.
