“Old, but good”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

The Qingdao underwater world is showing its age with many old displays that need updating. The winter is not a good time to visit outside attractions. The summer would be a much better time to spend some time wandering the outside areas.

“Just so so”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

Maybe I had too high expectations on the underwater world, because the city is a seaside city.Actually it's small, no much to see, just some very common species, as you can see in any inland cities. It does not worth the money of 120 yuan entrance fee.

“Not as impressed as I though I would have been.”
Reviewed August 28, 2012 via mobile

So the title pretty much says it all. It cost 120 RMB to do everything that was available. This gave me access to the underwater world, some mammals and the jellyfish exibit. Out of all of these the best section was the jellyfish exibit. 120 RMB is no too bad for a tourist attraction in qingdao but I feel what I paid for wasn't what I got. This is an over priced attraction for what you get, highly commercialized (to proceed to the next section you must go through a souvenir shop - you need to pass through four of these) and over crowded. I was shoulder to shoulder with everyone and it's difficult to take pictures. The actual aquarium was really amazing and the different types of animals was quite nice but this and the jellyfish exibit were the only things that were impressive and everything else fell quite short.

“Small tanks; big critters”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

When not living in China we live in San Francisco which not only has aquariums of its own, it is close to the mother of all: the Monterey Bay Aquarium. So this place, with small tanks and big creatures, seems a bit sad. It was not as bad as some of the zoos but still. The crocodiles were in tanks not much longer than their bodies, and one of them had coins on its back where folks had tossed them in the tank. Other sea life were equally cramped. The large tank was nice with one of those people movers running beneath it. What made this one different was that it made a few turns so you spent longer under the big tank than at some aquariums. All of that said, the kids loved it and the only thing that bothered them was the coins on the croc. Other than that, they had a great time.

I did have to use the restroom in the aquarium and though I'm a veteran Asia traveler and in fact have grown to prefer squat toilets because you don't have to touch anything, this bathroom was disgusting and smelly. There's just no excuse for that in an attraction that charges this much. Luckily, none of our kids had to use the bathroom while we were there. I don't think they would have survived it.
