It is just can not be described in words about this palace. It in beautifully crafted historical monument and it is what you MUST visit if you are in Shenyang. Popularly known by its Chinese name GUGONG (say this word to taxi driver and he will take you to this monument).
It will take around 90 minutes to see this palace and be ready to walk for an hour at this place

The palace was first constructed in 1625-26 and many expansions were added later. It was the palace of the two first emperors of the Qing Dynasty. It is smaller in size than the Beijing Forbidden City, but yet a remarkable architectural of over 100 buildings. The palace has rich reflections on ancient architectural and art, history of the Qing Dynasty and traditional Manchurian cultures.
Photographers who like rich architectures will not want to miss this place. The palace site is near to city center thus has easy access.

The architecture is great to see. There were few signs in English so I could not read too much. If you have a Chinese student card they give you a good discount. Plan to spend about 3 hours at least. The streets surrounding also have great souvenirs. Don't buy post cards inside the palace, there are cheaper post cards in the small surrounding streets.

Whilst not on the scale of The Forbidden City, The Shenyang Imperial Palace is more impressive, with more complete displays and detailed architecture set in some very pleasant surroundings.

Additionally, a good level of explanation surrounding the Mancu culture and Qing Dynasty is provided with only a small faction of the tourists that visit The Forbidden City. A must do if you are visiting Shenyang and have 2-3 hours to spare.

This is an outdoor attraction that I visited early spring. It was very easy to see as there aren't as many tourists as the Beijing palaces. It isn't as large albeit by no means small. Great architecture, nice courtyard, easy walk. What else do you want? I heard that summers are hot and winters bitter cold; spring was marvelous!
