“GREAT RESTAURANT”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2011

The six of us went there for dinner. The soup, appetizers, and salad were great. Everyone raved about their main course, and the home made desserts were incredible - the cheese cake was the best I've ever had. The staff were friendly, professional, and accomodating. The atmostphere had a casual elegance about it - not stuffy at all. The prices were very reasonable. The portions were HUGE, and many of us had take home meals for the next night. You will not be disappointed. Lots of specials too - check them out.

“Pleasant & Plentiful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2011

If you're looking for something less pricey than white glove service but a definite leap above an Olive Garden type joint, Jimmy's is a terrific place to go. This is a very nice Italian restaurant, decor is quietly elegant, not showy. Clean. Service isn't pretentious. Wine list is well done.

Key thing is the food. Don't be looking for tiny portions of trendy cube-shaped stuff served with vegetables you've never seen before. This is real Italian food, served on a big oblong plate with a portion size that will make Nonna smile. It isn't the "finest" Italian food you'll ever have, but it is an outstanding combination of quality and value, without the wads of pasta that the chains rely on.

Two observations: First, I'd like to have a little quiet background music piped into the dining room. Second, the salad served with dinner is a bit pedestrian. I'm not saying I'd want to see Jimmy's step it up with the salad and raise the prices. We're not here for salad. We're here for a meal. And I can't think of too many places where I've enjoyed every bite and been unable to finish. Two wonderful veal dishes served with modest sides of pasta, salads, and a bottle of wine, $64 (September 2011) is terrific.

Longtime residents miss the cheap & chewy steaks of the Andover Inn days. I miss that too, certainly. But that can be found at plenty of other places in the area. I can't think of anywhere else locally that offers Italian with the combination of quality and value that Jimmy's does.
