I heard about this new restaurant that was serving modern fusion food in Li Gong Di - phase 4, called Choc+. Curiously, they don’t have a website and very little advertising. They have only 14 tables and apparently can keep them fully booked. Being it was Monday after CNY, we lucked out reserving a table for 4. This was a dining experience worthy of Shanghai, Barcelona, Paris or New York.
First, the small private rooms are worth it. On this cold winter night we were able to sit back and enjoy, in total warmth, a 3 hour and 10 course tasting menu. At the end, our party was feeling full, but not stuffed - a perfect situation after a gourmet meal.
Our waitress and “guide to cuisine” was Cindy (whose Chinese name means Goddess and that she was!) Along with the executive chef, we were led through 10 courses of the freshest food imaginable, all presented in artistic ways. There is no menu; the chef decides the dishes based on what is the most fresh set of ingredients he can acquire.
The food would best be described as fusion small plates. All incredibly fresh, with the dishes designed to bring out the flavor of the key ingredients. Several of the dishes have some extra showmanship, where the executive chef will come to your table and add his special touch or something with a wow factor.
