“A truly lovely hotel”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Great hotel, probably the most relaxing of all the hotels that we stayed in during our three weeks in China. Suzhou is renowned for its beautiful gardens and this hotel is set within the most serene garden setting complete with beautiful piped music everywhere you walk. Our room was fantastic as was the hotel in general. Staff were attentive and helpful despite the fact that their English was extremely limited. We even had our own 24 hour concierge attached to our wing. Definitely a hotel that we would recommend and return to.

It was the residence of one of the Leaders of the KMT that was ousted by the current regime. You can go underground into his bunker and come out in different buildings of the hotel. The hotel is actually laid out like a Motel in that there are several building of only a few floors spread out through gardens.

My wife loved this place because it had so many beautiful and local arty furnishings. Very clean and tidy and a lot of delicate character - a true reflection of Suzhou.

Breakfast was excellent and not expensive. The Lotus restaurant in the hotel was very good and there are plenty of places nearby to eat. Located close to the main gardens in Suzhou and tourist market street made it an easy place for a holiday.

We got excellent rates through Agoda. I have used this hotel for both business and family holiday.

Friendly staff, as a whole. Each time, from the moment i stepped out from my room to the hotel's entrance, im always greeted with a pleasant "ni hao". (how are you?/hello in mandarin)

The hotel is located extremely near the bar street (shiquan jie), which is really good if you are looking for a nearby place to chill out. This street has lots of indie fashion shops too. The hotel also features a swimming pool (need swimming cap), gym, and an awesome chinese restaurant.

I'll be definitely be back here!

This is one of the best hotels we stayed in on our 'Wendy Wu Tour' in May. Lovely, tranquil setting and clean, comfortable, spacious bedroom. Helpful hotel staff too.

Great place to stay! Found a fantastic deal in Ctrip, (less than 600RMB for a twin!).
Everything is beautiful in this hotel; the location is good, just across the street from Master of the Nets Garden.
Lovely classic suzhou-styled gardens, hotel lobby is an interesting "chinese modern designer style". Rooms are average sized, very comfy beds and bedding (big issue in China!). Bathrooms are brand new, with all the ammenities .
Also loved the huge pool, located near the north entrance.
Service overall is good, breakfast quite average, not bad but nothing special either.
Loved the pianist and guzhen players in the lobby!!
Tip 1: Just crossing the street in front door (east gate) of the hotel, there´s a massage parlor in the first floor, ( same door of the coffee shop, just turn right and go upstairs). They are GREAT!!! tried the combo massage : foot reflexology and wholebody massage, 2 hours for 138 RMB!! liked it so much returned next day with my mom and a friend. Very proffessional masseuses and no need of appointment.
Tip 2: Coming out from the back door of the Hotel (north gate, Shiquan st), turn left and walk some 100 mts, (check the sign with photos of food) there´s a outdoor stair, leading to an all-you-can-eat korean barbecue in the first floor, 39RMB per person, great, fantastic food, pork, veal, fish, seafood... you name it. It´s always crowded with locals, no turists, they don´t speak english. but you won´t need it, just go and grab what you want to eat, bring it to your table, and cook it in the dry hot pot. Don´t take too much at once (there´s a sign in the table that states that if you left over uneaten food, there will be a penalty). Its was so good and so much fun!

My husband and I stayed there for three nights with our son and his wife. The hotel was very impressive and the rooms were lovely and spacious. They had thought about everything you could possibly need.
The restaurant was very good and after ten days of local food we were delighted to find steak and chips on the menu which was perfect. Unfortunately wine was not easily available in the bar as it is more of a Western taste although there were a few odd bottles in glass cabinets. We ended up with a very unusual bottle of Tibetian wine made with barley instead of grapes. An acquired taste but not too bad after the first couple of glasses.
All in all the hotel was one of the best we visited in the ten days travelling around Eastern China. We were not in a group but had a Chinese speaker with us which helps.
The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: try and book the hotel rather than the annexe - I did not see the rooms in the annexe but the ambien...
