We stayed at this hotel a couple of years ago during our first visit to Suzhou and liked it enough to extend our stay then and book it again for this visit. Meanwhile, its ownership has changed, and not for the better, it seems.
Location - unchanged, of course - is very convenient, and the hotel lay-out, with interior gardens and courtyards, is still very pleasant. But the property is run down, with bare walls, dirty carpets and scuffed furniture. No English-speaking staff, no breakfast facilities. It looks like a fine 4-star hotel is being turned into a typical Chinese budget inn.
