Very good hotel, very good staff, nice place to stay for business or leisure.i highly recommend the restaurant named Riva on the 2nd floor (the paradise for steak lovers), and the gym club located on the 3rd floor, open round the clock, which is valuable for those who cant managed the jet lag...nice as well to rent a bike and tour around the lake.....

One of the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Rooms are very large with high ceiling, very clean and spacious. The food is the best around the Suzhou area hotels.
The Hotel also has an awesome lounge on the 27th floor overlooking the Jinji Lake with an indescribable view, very friendly service and good food and drinks.
It is truly a place away from home. Highly recommend for people traveling on business or pleasure.

Room Tip: Try to request a room that overlooks the lake it is an indescribable view.

This is my second Chinese Intercontinental in a week, after Foshan. While the buildings are about the same, both quite impressive and maybe a little overdone, I think the Suzhou place has some shortcomings. It is my third stay here, and each time I had struggles with the reception staff. That must mean something.
I enjoyed the previous reviewer's rant about being sent away from the pool for lack of a cap. I think I want to test if they try that on me.
The hotel has a grand location if you are lucky to be on the lake side.
What I dislike mostly is the room furnishing. It is uncomfortable. The chairs are impossible to sit on for a longer time. The sofa is entirely unpractical. The bathroom is short of towel hangers. These little things can get annoying if one stays more than a day.

Strike 1 - June, 2012 - Ate something in the club lounge that made me very sick. All I do is travel - China, Mexico, US, Europe - and I seldom have a problem with food. Something was very wrong in the club lounge that day.

Strike 2 - August, 2012 - I was thrown out of the pool for not having a swimming cap. Only hotel pool in the world that I travel in that requires a swimming cap. Intercontinental must attract an extra filthy type of clientele for this to be necessary.

Strike 3 - October, 2012 - 9:00 PM wake up call. Some goofy manager named Tony wanted to know if I received the scale that I requested about 3 hours earlier (doesn't he trust his employees?). This is an international hotel and the staff surely understands that many customers go to bed early (by local standards) so that we can be up by 3:00 AM to call customers, vendors, and employees in other time zones. Tony tried to apologize with a cheap bottle of twist top wine, but that was poor compensation for stealing a good night's sleep with unnecessary nonsense,

I moved to the Renaissance for the next week. No pool to get thrown out of, but a more professional staff.

Room Tip: Make your reservation at the Renaissance.

The hotel is great even if a bit pricey. Staff were very keen to please, but when I asked for 4 boarding passes to be printed I got 4 copies of one, and when I asked the receptionist to write the name Houzhou airport, she asked the concierge to speak to the driver, who took me to Sundi, about 100 miles away. Missed my flight and cost a heap to put right. They were trying, in both senses of the phrase!

Stayed 10 nights; husband was there for business in Suzhou and I was on holiday. Husband usually stays Crowne Plaza. We were on 18th floor in lake view deluxe room.Room was spacious but the monstrous round bath was a waste of space. Room had a walk in robe with bench space, hanging area, shelf space and full length mirror. There is separate toilet and spacious handbasin and bench area. Shower room is spacious and well set out although the tap configuration is annoying. A turn too far and you get the overhead shower and a blast of cold water just as you are stepping out of the shower. It is also a bit difficult to work out how to adjust hot and cold. The handbasin is difficult to drain and a bit annoying. Lighting was good. Bed is king size and extremely comfortable. Linen very good quality and plenty of pillows. Bed side tables are good size. There is sort of "cuddle" lounge which is useless. A large round table, 2 chairs which are comfortable and appropriate power outlets for all your needs around the rooms. The large flat screen tv is opposite the bed and good quality although you can't move the screen at all which is a bit of a nuisance if you want to sit in the chairs. The air conditiong is individually controlled and works well. We like to keep temp quite low and it was about 30 outside but we stayed on about 22 very comfortably. There is fabulous view of the lake from the large full width picture windows and just sitting there in the evening watching the fabulous lights and view is a beautiful way to unwind. The aluminium strips and handles in the room and the toilet area could have been cleaner, I don't think they get wiped down. We were frequently chasing up toiletries ,soap, tea and coffee, sugar, which were replaced intermittently. And we also had to chase up a roll of toilet paper. The rooms are clean but could be a little better standard of cleaning and, as mentioned before, attention to replacing items. The front of house staff were excellent, the concierges well informed and very helpful. English was quite good everywhere. The breakfast room/dining room is large, very comfortable but the range of food is a bit limited at both breakfast and at dinner. The steak restaurant on level 2 is a treat; the food is really well prepared and beautifully presented. Service in both areas is excellent. The lifts are fast. The pool area is fabulous and the pool itself is practically a destination - it's infinity edge and you feel you are swimming in the lake. There is an excellent gym. The location of the hotel is very good; you can step outside the hotel and be in green parklands with paths in each direction. Just walking iin the area is a pleasure. Gardens are beautiful. There is a large department store (high fashion labels) and shops across the road, as well as a well stocked supermarket and chocolatier/bakery/fast food outlets and excellent pharmacy. On the lake side there is an amusement park within half kilometre stroll. The other way takes you to the exhibition building and the arts and culture building as well as the metro. The metro is very very easy to use and a quick trip under the lake brings you out into the old shopping district. Prepare to spend a day there. In summary, it's a good, comfortable, well run hotel. It just needs to improve the food standards and get onto details like replacing items in the daily room servicing. I'd recommend Intercontinental for couples or business. Also, the room we had was very quiet. We didn't hear any other guests although there was a big conference on when we were there (The Porsche Boxster launch)

Room Tip: A lake view room on the upper floors. You won't believe the view at night.

the hotel is a little far from city center. Local people visit here only for some quick dish ir a movie. if you want to have a tour of the city, or have a dip of local life, take a cab.

the lake view room is fantastic. if the weather is clear, you can enjoy the beautiful Jinji Lake from your room. there's a big round sofa in my room. i really enjoy reading a book by the big window. very comfortable.

and there's a big hot tub just at the entrance. so you could enjoy the lake view with a bubble shower :-)
