We took an old rusty boat onto the canal which worried me a little but it was worth seeing the way the people actually live. Not in the high rises which remain empty. We saw people washing their clothes in the canal and also fishing in it. I watched as a cat played with a rat in back of an old house. I am sure the water is polluted. As we passed under the walkways the locals waved and smiled at us and even took pictures. It was a very humbling experience.
