“Very good, based on a business meeting rather than a stay”

We held a conference at the hotel but did not stay here so I can't comment on the bedrooms. However everything else was very good. The hotel has a grand style, and organised the conference facilities very well. The catering was very good. Recommended.

This hotel is in Hohhat, in Inner Mongolia China. It has a number of good things to mention but it is not a 5 star hotel due to a few deficiencies.

First and foremost is the lack of smoke free rooms or any restrictions of smoking in the morning breakfast area. Most of the staff has a minimum understanding of English, but hey, it’s Inner Mongolia so some lack can be meted out.

When checking in we asked for a smoke free room but upon arrival to our room, the sink of Chinese tobacco was overwhelming and we asked for another smoke free room. As it turned out, the hotel has one floor (16th) out of over 25 floors that is designated as smoke free so we got a room on that floor. Only is seems the Chinese are not bound to observe the smoke free requirement. Our new room only had a faint odor of second hand smoke evident when we first entered the room so we decided this was probably the best we could do. I have developed asthma late in life and therefore, but health depends on not being subjected to air pollution, difficult to avoid in China but a hotel room should be a safe haven. At least it had a window we could open and due to the weather in Inner Mongolia being mild during the summer, we kept the window open to somewhat negate the offensive odor.

Breakfast offers a wide variety of food although the fruit juices were of poor quality probably by diluting them with water. But of course I speak from a Western point of view so I will not also mention that the bacon is always undercooked. My point is that although some food is not exactly to my liking, the variety offered is substantial and wide enough to eat there a few days without having to eat the same food day after day. One trick to try to avoid smokers is to choose a table away from a group of Chinese men who are the ones who smoke in restaurants.
The staff is quite friendly and they try to meet your needs. The room was kept clean and stocked. Due to outside activities, we were not able enjoy any of the other restaurants. We phoned down to find out if the hotel had a spa but were told they did not. But we discovered foot massages were available on the 5th floor. However, I was not impressed with the quality my wife and I received and the young women applying the messages seemed more interested in talking to each other.

Overall, I believe the hotel was much more than adequate and problem with being around second hand smoke is probably beyond the responsibility of the hotel, given the culture aspects. We were not given a choice of hotels during out stay and were happy to get back to Shanghai and find a smoke free environment. Still, I think a four star rating is adequate for the Inner Mongolia Jin Jiang International Hotel.

Room Tip: Try the 16th Floor to avoid stale smoke and good luck.

All in all a pretty good place compared to others
Definitely not 5 star but nearly a 4
Big rooms and a good gym
Nice to walk in the parks in the morning and go to the little market tucked behind the park
Good buffet breakfast with so much variety
We didn't try lunch or dinner
Hot water a little short in peak hours but good beds and no real complaints except no wifi in the rooms

We had been booked ahead - only room available was an ex smoking room which smelt of stale smoke and mould. The hotel is tired , grimy and a full on smokers hotel . The foyer was a cloud of smoke where the smokers assembled to smoke. I had a severe reaction to the pollution , and it spoilt our stay .The curtains didnt cover the windows and bright lights from outside illuminated the room all night . The desk chair broke when we sat on it , and the furniture needed replacing - updating . The windows had never been cleaned . The city is polluted , but our excursions were great .

Room Tip: The hotel is polluted with smoke - find somewhere else.

I stayed here for one night as part of a tour package. The room itself was very large, with an amazing shower and large bathroom. Very clean with everything a high-quality hotel should have.
We had been told there was a swimming pool, but when we got downstairs and jumped in, we were rather shocked to find out it wasn't heated! Just be mindful of this is you want a swim - it took us by surprise!
The breakfast was a vast array of all sorts to choose from, from full cooked breakfast, continental pastries and local mongolian dishes. Excellent quality.
A very comfortable stay.

From the moment you walk through the door and are greeted by a tuxedo-tailed bellman, you realize you are in for a very special stay. The staff is English speaking and willing to assist you. Beds are beyond comfortable. All amenities are provided. Separate bath tub and shower (rain shower too!).
Breakfast is excellent, they have both Western and Asian dishes available. For after dinner drinks and/or meetings, the bar is very pleasant. Convenience store located on lobby level is very reasonably priced (especially water).
Internet intermittent in lobby area, however was able to access internet in the business center for nominal cost.

Room Tip: I travelled with a group, and everyone liked their room.

Stayed there for two nights for a friend’s wedding. I had never liaised with the staff as the booking and check in-check out was done for me, however when needed help with my locked luggage or any other query the staff was very helpful.
The room was very good, big and comfortable (two queen size beds), and came with the usual 5* standard perks. The big, whole-wall, window provided lots of light and a good view over the city. The hotel seemed very big with a huge lobby area, with lots of facilities spread around the building. However, I have not used them, except rooms for family and friends dining after the wedding. Also we were driven around, so do not know the exact location or proximity to shops/restaurants/other attractions.
Morning was like having dinner for breakfast, with such a variety of choice (meat, rice, noodles, vegs, etc). What was missing was the typical breakfast in a European sense – cereals, toasts, etc.
Despite not having ventured around the hotel or its area, the overall experience and first impression would make me definitely recommend this place for anyone staying in Hohhot.

Room Tip: Probably the higher the floor the better the view over the city.
