Crowne Plaza Yichang
Ranked #2 of 363 Hotels in Yichang
Certificate of Excellence

The Crowne Plaza Yichang definitely seemed like the nicest hotel in town. The property was all new and gleaming. We arrived early and were immediately upgraded to an available club level room. It was quiet, large and comfortable. We had a nice view of the city but not the river. The hotel is part of a large western style shopping mall complex and is right on the Yangtze River. It was about a ten-minute taxi ride into the somewhat older downtown area. Now for the bad part. Language barriers were quite severe. This hotel is clearly not accustomed to western visitors much less tourists. The concierge spoke very little English and the hotel used a third party travel agency, also with very limited English, to book our tour to the Three Gorges Dam area. Due to these language barriers, we were unable to go to the Dam site on what was probably the clear day but had to wait until the next very fog filled day. We were unable to see much of anything on the tour. To add insult to injury, our private tour guide with the help of our private driver rushed us away from the dam site in order to save time for her special gallery visit full of extremely overpriced touristy “art”. The breakfast buffet, included, and dinner buffet, extra, were acceptable but not noteworthy by any means. The staff seemed confused as to why we were there at all. I guess this hotel would be fine for business travelers with a pre-arranged agenda but tourists should probably look elsewhere.

Room Tip: The River Side did have better views.

Reasonable rates, adequate breakfast which was at least fresh and quite varied, spacious rooms and friendly service. Perhaps the best hotel in town.

Room Tip: Avoid the river view rooms as if you open a window your room will fill with the stench of the Yangtz...

our room was facing the Yangtze and we enjoyed sipping our early morning coffee whilst watching the boats go by..situated next to a huge mall this property couldnt be bad!

we were deeply dissapointed by the Travel desk that they had appointed - the lady at the counter had no clue on how to deal with a customer and kept seeking help from the F&B manager for every little issue..

Room Tip: select river view room

Excellent hotel. Our room was exquisite, from the layout, to the design, to the ambiance. We truly enjoyed one one day stay there.

We stayed 5 nights at CP Yichang - reception was excellent and hotel is beautiful and only 6 months old. Front desk and reception/foyer staff mostly have very limited English but make every effort to assist. Our room overlooked the river with huge picture windows and it was very pleasant in the morning and evenings to watch the river traffic as well as the locals enjoying their exercise/dancing in the park. Our bathroom was large, immacualte and well set out with separate toilet, separate bath and separate shower as well as separate area for basin and makeup etc. The room was well planned and large with comfortable easy chairs and table near the window. The lifts were quick and readily available, we never waited for a lift. The hotel is doing it's best to accomodate non smokers but the culture still has people smoking as they walk into reception and through hallways as well as occasionally in the lifts. This is just China however and our room was never affected by smoke through the air con or under doors.
The bed was king, quite comfortable and after walking all day we generally had a very good night's sleep. Tea and coffee facilities are in the room and although minimally supplied with sachets, the staff were happy to supply extras for us.
Breakfast is not really geared up to Western tastes - and there are not a lot of Westerners in Yichang so this is reasonable. There was fresh fruit and cereals although these were just the commercial sugary types, rice bubbles, corn flakes etc. No muesli. No yoghurt except in tubs. The fruit was very limited but fresh and tasty. Eggs were cooked to order. And I couldn't find any toast. There were pastries and all the breads were sweet and doughy. The restaurant staff are not particularly helpful and do whatever they can to avoid clearing tables or bringing tea or coffee. Each day they asked if I wanted tea or coffee and then failed to produce either.
However the restaurant was immaculate, as was every part of the hotel and overall it was a very enjoyable and comfortable stay.
There is a very nice coffee shop/ high tea area which is expensive by local standards but very pleasant and quiet.
I would recommend using this hotel.
The location is right next to a large shopping area with supermarkets, pharmacy and all manner of shops within about 100 meters and the piers for catching tourist boats are just across the road. The walkway all along the waterfront for kilometres is beautiful, interesting and extremely well maintained level walking on paving.
The standard of accommodation is first class as are the cleanliness and service levels.
Yichang is a surprise, the more you walk about , the more you will find. It's a shame that its' only a stepping off point for 3 dams cruises because it is a destination in itself without the touristy feel.

Room Tip: Get a river front room , you will be entertained for hours watchiing the river and all it's tra...

I received outstanding customer service from the staff at the Crowne Plaza, Yichang. The hotel is superb in design and attention to detail, but stafff of the hotel are extremely helpful with everything i asked them to assist me with, re sending a parcel back to Australia and helping me with translation email/phone call. I cannot recommend the customer service of this hotel highly enough, well done!! a role model hotel that many other hotels should look up to!
