Shangri-La Hotel, Wuhan
Ranked #5 of 2,438 Hotels in Wuhan
Certificate of Excellence

This is not the best Shangri-La hotel I have stayed in as far as the facilities go (small pool in particular), but the staff is very friendly and helpful. The area surrounding the hotel is not particularly attractive, although there is a cute little park closeby with a lake, and some lively streets.

Room Tip: Better to have a room on one of the higher floors (less noise from the busy street and better view)

Stayed here for a business trip, which was my first trip to Wuhan. The staff in the Horizon Lounge offered truly heartfel hospitality. Most impressionable, however, was a wonderful cook at the noodle station at breakfast, who went out of his way to help us get the green bean noodles that we liked so much (Mr. Sun Xing). The Horizon Lounge was great for business meetings as well as relaxation. The breakfast and happy hour had good varieties of offerings. The rooms are average, and look somewhat tired despite recent renovations.

In the middle of the city, shrounded in fog or smog when I visited. It was a relief to get there safely. This is a comfortable and comforting oasis. The service is very good. The hotel is a good and reliable choice.

I upgraded to the executive floor, which was a good decision if you spend some time in the hotel itself. It gives breakfast, evening snacks and free drinks and cookies throughout the day. The lounge is a nice place to work in, and the staff are very helpful.

The food is good, and there is really nothing else in the concrete jungle surrounding the hotel, so best to eat there.

The rooms are well laid out, with fresh, good quality bed linen. They provide razor, toothbrush and even bath salts. They are a comfortable, peaceful haven in a city gridlocked with traffic. The new subway line will open next year which may help a little to reduce the current problems.

There is a fairly good gym (including a punch bag and boxing gloves!) and a small indoor pool. All the essentials are there.

It is a very good hotel if you are working in the Hankou area. If your work is in Wuchang, it is probably better to choose a hotel on that side of the Yangtse River because of the very difficult traffic.

I can't say enough good about the service at this hotel. Since 2009 I have visited at least 5 times and every time I come away thinking that this property epitomizes what excellent service is. The staff goes out of their way to make guests comfortable and feel genuinely welcome.

I am pleasantly surprised that I am recognized and welcome by name - when I haven't been there for 6 months and I haven't even registered yet.

Spending a little extra on a Horizon Club room puts you in what feels like a small, intimate hotel on the top floors. Service at the club is excellent - when I walk in for breakfast the staff remembers what I had the day before and asks if they can get that for me again.

Rooms are spotlessly clean and well maintained - though they are a bit smaller than many of the newer 5 star hotels in Asia.

Room Tip: Go for a Horizon Club room

This is an OK hotel, but when you compare it to other 5* hotels it starts to fall apart. Fair enough, they are in Wuhan, so it must be difficult to get things done properly, but it's still not that good. Dated and a bit boring, they make up for it by trying really hard on the service front, which is great. Just be careful with the food, anything that's not local is terrible...

Room Tip: Tope floors (the points club and premium rooms) get free web and a lounge with free food and drinks...
