Stayed here for 3 nights as part of a work trip to Zhengzhou. The hotel was booked by our Chinese Contact.
(1) Clean Rooms
The rooms and toilets were kept pretty clean. Attached a few general shots of the room. However the room is a bit run down. More on this later.
(2) Safe Location
The hotel is next to a Police District HQ of sorts, so no worries in general about safety here.
(3) Cheap Rate
We were booked into a standard room. The room cost after tax was RMB 298 (SGD$63 / US$49).
(1) Room is a bit run down.
There are cracks on the wall that are pretty obvious, some missing tiles in the toilet and some of the wall paper was visibly peeling already. Refer to photos attached for reference.
(2) Lousy Internet Connectivity
There is no hotel wide Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is only available at the lobby, and even then the speed was patchy. The only way to get Wi-Fi in the room is to borrow a portable router from the hotel. This is free essentially, you just have to place a RMB 100 deposit with Guest Services. Dial 666 and Guest Services will bring you one and you dial them again before you check out and they will retrieve it and return your deposit. Though take note there are limited units and not everyone in our group was able to get one until the second day.
If you have no Wi-Fi capability in your laptop or mobile device, there is a PC in each room which you can use to surf the net at a fee. Didn't use it so I am not sure what the fee is.
But bear in mind that in China, the sensors block a lot of sites, such as Facebook and Bloomberg also. & Google also seems sluggish at times. Most apps on either your iPhone or Android phone would be sluggish or just doesn't load also.
(3) Geared towards Domestic Clients / Limited Language Skills of Staff
Bear in mind this hotel is really more geared to serving domestic clients. While the staff are pleasant and try their best to help. Being able to speak and read Chinese would be really helpful, as most if not all the staff do not really speak any other language. & a lot of the instructions and signs are in Chinese only. Everyone in our group was fluent in Mandarin both written and spoken so it wasn't too much of a bother.
(4) Road Noise
While I would say road noise seldom bothers me and I expect it in any major cities. The road noise here is a bit loud. With heavy trucks can be heard rolling down the road until well into the night. Until 2:00 - 3:00 AM the 3 nights we were there.
A bit torn here, by international standard it would be really more a poor overall rating. However this is a typical hotel in many second tier Chinese cities. It is in that sense compared to a similar Chinese Hotel it is an average property. However the international chains are starting to set up shop here, mostly in the Zhengzhou's New Districts. There is the Novotel , Le Meridien., Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn that have set up shop. Our next trip there we would very very likely be staying at the Holiday Inn or Novotel.
