“Sun island- another must go....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2012

Went there in end of December 2011.

The snow sculptures were breathtaking and stunning. One would never imagine how big the snow sculptures can be. Nice place to take photos, with the snow sculptures or the scenenary in the park.

Just go for it, you won't regret.

“Peaceful place across Songhua River”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 3, 2012

An island would be more beautiful when visited in Summer, i think. Lots of trees and large Russian houses/mansions scattered around. It seems like a nice, big park. Also, nice to visit in Winter, when the festival areas are packed with sooooooo many people and the large tourist groups dont visit the island. Try walking to the island via frozen river in Winter.

“The Russian Village Skansen is more interesting”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2012

Don't get me wrong -- the snow sculptures are impressive, but after seeing both Zhaolin Park and Snow and Ice World, the Sun Island sculptures were less festive in comparison. Of course, the Sun Island sculptures are only available in the daytime whereas the latter two are better to see at night.

If you have some time, head south toward the river and you will find a Russian Village preserved as an outdoor museum. Complete with a Russian Military Officer (I assume) who looks at your Russian Passport that you get as an admission ticket, the village consists of about a dozen turn of the 20th century timber one story structures that hold various shops or exhibits. Most of the people who work there are either Chinese or Russian, in which both languages could be used. Of particular note is a gramaphone/old record museum. One exhibit is not suitable for those under 18; it is located in a room beyond a room that shows old beer labels from various countries, inside a circular structure.

Exiting the park from this area is a bit tricky if the overhead river gondola is closed in winter; you have to travel north along a river, and then walk across it to get back to the entrance of Sun Island Park.

“I walked across the river to see the place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2012

I am here in March. The river ice is 2 feet thick and the walk looked inviting. so i joined the 30 or so on the whole river to take the 4 km walk. i liked the island bc no one was on it. it felt like my own peaceful setting. There are some russian build vacation homes from a along ago to see, but frankly i just loved the walk over to the island in the early evening. just be careful that the ice is strong enough for you. make sure u see locals on the ice, like i did. otherwise you can take a car or the cable car route.
