don't expect this hotel to be any of those rooms with complete amenities and big spaces. the room and bathroom are small. very basic amenities: kettle for coffee, free toothbrush and toothpaste, slippers and bottled water. no hair dryer and safe. we stayed at the family room and it was modern and clean.

what's good about this hotel is the location- walking distance to st. sophia church, center street and zhaolin park. we stayed here for the ice and snow festival and it was very cold outside but the heater in the room is very functional that you won't feel the cold.

the beds are a bit hard but if you're tired from walking around the whole day, believe me, it won't matter at all :)

book really early and get to avail of cheap prices. i booked 6mos before our january travel and only paid for 25USD/night for a family room for two people. more than worth than what we paid for!

Stayed at this hotel for two nights in January. We chose this hotel because it was much cheaper then the other options (45USD vs. 200USD) and I would only recommend this hotel if you are looking for a budget accommodation.

From the outside and in the hallways the hotel appears to be not very clean but the rooms are clean. The two downsides of the rooms are they are very small (just fits two adults and two bags) and the beds are horribly uncomfortable and hard. The amenities in the room are severely limited, only one blanket with no sheets, no hairdryer, no shampoo or conditioner, etc. If you are not looking for any extras then this is not a bad hotel, you just have to have the right expectations going in.

The staff speak minimal English and are not overly helpful so you should do your own research about what to do and where to eat. I also would not rely on the "complimentary internet" as we were never able to make this work.

The one advantage of this hotel is the location. It is about a five minute walk to the main shopping street (Zhongyang), a five minute walk to Zhaolin park where they have the ice lanterns and about a 10 minute walk to one of the only bars we could find in the area (Blue Bar). Other destinations can easily be reached by taxi. If you are headed here for the Ice Festival then the Sun Island park is the best option for seeing the amazing sculptures, but it's far from the hotel and you'll need to take a cab. Zhaolin park also has some nice ice lanterns (cost is 200RMB per person and it's just a short walk from the hotel).

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the end of the hall and not on the third floor near the breakfast bar.

We stayed here for 3 nights and were pleased with our stay. I had booked a family room on hotels.com, which was supposed to have 2 queen size beds. When we arrived in the early afternoon, we were told those rooms weren't available. Instead, we were given a room with 1 queen bed and a single bed, which was just a regular room. Turns out the desk (as seen in the room photos) turns into a bed. We didn't argue, but be warned if you actually plan on sleeping 4 people, you should call and confirm your reservation. Having the desk as a bed was comfortable enough, but it left us with less storage room in an already compact room.

There are many pros to this hotel:
- Good value
- Convenient location, 2 blocks to the main pedestrian strip, 2 blocks to Church of St. Sophia and next door to the Mykal mall with the food court and grocery store in the basement. Walkable to the Songhua river and airport shuttle bus drop-off/pick-up stops (near the Holiday Inn).
- Room was well heated and had temperature control, handy when you start sweating from getting layered up for the cold
- Clean and efficient use of space
- Good water pressure, no shortage of hot water
- There were a few wi-fi hotspots available from our room that had strong and consistent signals, not Ibis wi-fi (they only have wired connections in the room)
- Toothbrush/paste kits, slippers and bath/hair wash. The heat can be quite drying; I'd suggest bringing body lotion and hair conditioner.

Cons:
- Rooms are not sound proof and other guests seemed to be early risers with kids that liked to run up and down the halls
- Even though the front desk told us all rooms were non-smoking, our room smelled faintly of smoke. It also had an ashtray in it, so it's hard to believe the hotel doesn't know people are smoking in their rooms. We overheard another couple who had changed rooms 3 times because of the smoke. Our room had a window and we were able to air out the stench the first day.
- The mattresses are very hard and the pillows slightly flat and lumpy. We slept fine for 3 nights but any longer might've started to be really uncomfortable.

We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Was there with a friend from Jan 13-17, location was excellent, near city centre and a few attractions. Check in and out was efficient and mistake proof. Breakfast was basic, coffee is bad (should have good coffee than we will have breakfast more often), value at RMB22 is not bad.
Room was in good condition, warm, clean. No smile from other staff, but they bring what we need like extra cups etc. Very limited hair dryers, need to reserve, only got hold of 1 on the 2nd day evening.
Booked on line but tried to ask a few questions through their emails, have been sending emails to them since Dec 29, not even 1 reply. Went through their main feedback team on Accor.com, they only received 1 reply after sending several emails. If you need to check anything, not easy to get through to them. Better go through the main feedback email, espcially if you don't write in Chinese.
Overall a good experience there.

Room Tip: Ask someone in China to book for you with a credit card guarantee. Upper floor is great, 6 or 7.

We arrive late evening but we were still able to tour around the city in Central Ave. As it is peak season, hotel is fully booked. Luckily we use creditcard as guarantee.

Our comment is about the Bathroom Towel...they changed new one but we saw some long strands of hair

Because Harbin is so cold in winter, you will definitely want a hotel that is warm and comfortable. I think the IBIS gives you a lot of value for your money. The rooms are decent and have the basic necessities you need (towels, slippers, shower gel). Also, the rooms are very clean and very warm. The breakfast is nothing extraordinary but there are toasts, cornflakes, eggs and rice. The location of the hotel is also very good - close to the Haga Sophia Church. Two building next door there is a shopping mall called Mykal where in the basement there is a huge supermarket and which also has some good restaurants and coffeeplaces.

W hen in Harbin you really aren't spending much time in your room - so don't be frightened when you get to the Ibis as the rooms are Asian small. Even with their cruise ship sized bathrooms and yes they are round - the Ibis is about sleep. The room itself always had hot water and the heater worked great - two important aspects of being in a city of sub-zero temperatures in winter. However they don't have hair dryers and no in-room safe. Also if you are looking for quiet before 9:30 PM then get a room that doesn't have a window or face the street as you will hear the recorded voice that plays all day from the street vendors a few blocks over, along with the taxi horns - most annoying if you need to sleep. It is in a good location to get to attractions, however be prepared for traffic - might be easier to set pick up points if you have a tour guide and walk a block to meet them if you don't want to waste 30 minutes in traffic. We also wouldn't recommend the breakfast buffet, very poor quality - however if you're not an early riser right next door in the mall there is a food court in the basement that opens at 9:30 - good food and lots to choose from.

Room Tip: If you need peace and quiet get a room facing inside.
