“Wonderful Experience”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

When we were approaching Huayu Resort and Spa Yanglong Bay Sanya, the first thing caught the eye is the external design of the hotel, which is with the Chinese style like the Forbidden City, different from any hotel we've stayed in or seen. And its lobby is so broad that can hold more people, which the wind can bring the tourists the nice smell of the sea. The dinner environment in the open is nice, with music, as well as the swimming pools. We could enjoy the nice seafood and seawater at the same time. Never have we been so cozy! The atmosphere is warm and sweet and relaxing. Of course, the hotel room is way better, brighter and more thoughtful with the clothes-hanger in the terrace, which meets the Chinese tourists' needs. In short, it was a wonderful, unforgettable experience in this hotel.

This is really an amazing hotel, exceeding our expectation. It is located in the Yalong Bay, national resort area, an ideal place if you really want to escape from hustle and bustle of the city center. The room/suite is spacious with traditional Chinese elements, bathtub is huge for relaxation. Impressive poolside BBQ offers various choices from grilled food items to hotpot. Filipino live band brings vibrancy to the guests. Breakfast are busy with 700 people, but nobody is queuing up, lots of choices. You can enjoy Taiji performance during breakfast. Staff are very warm, polite, actively offer help. The hotel has its own beach which we enjoyed a lot. Not to be left out, the hotel is in the commercial complex with various food court fromm starbucks, Haagen-Dazs, Pizzahut, Zen to some Hainan delicadies, spicy food too. For any sightseeing, just arrange it with hotel staff, quite easy. In short, i have no doubt recommending this Value for Money hotel to any of the travellers.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the hotel pool is recommended. Or rooms with direct access to the hotel pool.

I Stayed here for 2 + 3 nights, because I enjoyed the hotel 2 years ago when it was "Crowne Plaza".

I have to say....
price down (Roomcharge);
Maintenance..and breakfast also down.

On the positive side:
1. The Rooms are the same (very spacious, soft comfortable beds to sleep, good internet connection, big lcd screen television with all internationall channels movies and actuallity).
2. Also the premecy is the same with all the eating facilities at the doorstep.
3. and the private beach (walking distance 400m) is also still the same.
4. staf was friendly and helpfull, but "not capable"......."airconditioning".

On the downside....
a. Very bad breakfast experience (all day's actually, no matter what time).
b. the maintenance cost has been cut down (our aircondition not cooled down).

Where the resort really failed:
The breakfast has clearly changed into a CHINESE BREAKFAST, and I DIDN'T LIKE.
Yes there is still widely assortiment of western choice. but what really turned me down:
1. not all day's orrange juice available amongst the juices displayed (my preferred favorite drink). 2. NO FLAT PLATES: aaaaarrrrgh....: al plates were like SMALL Soup-plates. You simply can't consume a toasted bread with knife and fork... NEED FOR FLAT PLATES. 3. service in the breakfast area was the worst i ever encountered.... First of all: at peek hours there were no "prepaired tables" available. Tables were abbandoned, but with all the remainders of the previous table-users on it (UNDERSTAFFED). Two times we simply collected the remainders from one table to an other to have at least a table to start. Secondly: 3 times I had to que for about 15 minutes for scrambled egg...... (Not enough "peek"-capacity). I don't know why it got so worse..... Maybe they should have kept it like the "Old Crowne Plaza", when the breakfast area (and capacity) was in the other dining area near the poolside downstairs.

Our room (2536) failed to cool down below 26 degrees.... (actually the outside temperature). The air blown from the aircondition was simply not cooled down by the cool-exchanger from the aircondition system. I am a technician myself and encounterd that the roomthermostat did not have a "switch-click" so ask for replacement... (they did it quick and efficient). However, below the klickpoint (26-degrees)....: still no cooled air from the fan. so no cold fluid flowing through the cool-exchanger. So actually the whole aircondition-system not worked for cooling down.... Don't still know the rootcause.. but I suspect either it was not running due to cost-saving aspects or the airco-unit is defect........ I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHY MAINTENANCE PEOPLE SIMPLY DON'T CHECK IF THE SYSTEM IS REALLY COOLING DOWN..........

So price quality is still OK, but I will start avoiding it for the downsides above.

Room Tip: any room is good, since they are spacious. Check for working of you airconditioning.....

Stayed for 4 nights. The rooms are spacious and well laid out. The food everywhere in this complex is really expensive. My collegue was vomiting from the breakfast and I sufferred greatly from the worst Japanese i have every had in my life (and i have had a lot of Japanese). I would not return due to the bad food and extremly high prices even for NYC these prices are high. The breakfast is truly terrible. There are enough tables but no staff to clear tables so no where to sit. 3 out 4 mornings there was no coffee, one morning the excuse was the beans were in a cupboard on another floor and they had to find the key. Next time I will spend the extra money and stay at a western standard hotel...

We stayed here over the New Years holiday. This is the former Crowne Plaza property that is connected to the "mall", main shopping/eatery area in Sanya. I normally prefer to stay at westernized hotels, but the holiday made the prices impossible. So for staying at a Chinese hotel, I thought this place wasn't too bad.

It's great that its right at the mall-- starbucks, pizza hut, grocery, other amenities just steps away. There is a grass area that has a lot of kids stuff to do, but its ridiculously expensive. This hotel does have a very small kids room.

You do have to walk across the street and down a path to the beach, but the hotel has a bar/ice cream eatery and chairs/towels there. Totally hoarded by early morning probably, but at this time of the year, the weather was nice so I had no problem sitting on the sand with a towel sans umbrella with kids.

Breakfast is CHAOTIC but to be honest, I've seen equally chaos at Shangri La's and Ritz' during busy holiday periods. There just is more of it here and pushing to get that one item that may be gone in the 10 seconds it takes you to push yourself there.

They offer a 10 minute free massage at their spa which I took (head and shoulders). The spa area is very nice-- atmosphere has local feel, calming (water around the walkways). Discount on all prices (the spa is located at the edge of the mall).

We go to Sanya often for short breaks. I have other hotels that I prefer, but this is not a bad option at all.

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel the first time it was a Crowne Plaza

The standards are still high, the rooms outstanding, and the buffet breakfast just as good

Only failure the English speakers were now not as available as before.

It is a walk to the beach, but there are is a large food court adjacent to the hotel which has every food you can think off

This resort has been around for a while. However, that does not mean that it is old. The styling is classic and is timeless.

The facilities are in excellent state of repair.

Restaurants are excellent and the service staff are well trained and do an all around great job.

Though it is not your typical Crowne Plaza it is well worth trying out.
