“Macau Day Trip - Macau Highlights”
Reviewed March 25, 2014

This Macau Day Trip Highlights review was originally written for and intended for those visiting from Hong Kong, taking the ferry service to/from Macau. However, the suggested attractions remain the same for those interested in visiting Macau as a day trip from Zhuhai. As such, we are posting it here on the Zhuhai - Macau day trip listing.

We usually recommend visitors to stay the night or two in Macau so they can enjoy more of what is available there. However, for those short on time during visits to Hong Kong, there are an infinite number of possible day trips, which can be made taking in any number of the cities historic, cultural, modern and exciting attractions.

The following is a Highlight Version - Macau day trip that takes in many of the very best attractions and traditional dining options

Cross the border and enter Macau (around 9am)

Morning tarts at Margaret's (9.30am)

Senado Square attractions (10-11am)
a.) Leal Senado Building
b.) St. Dominic's Church
c.) Lou Kau Mansion

Ruins of St. Paul area (11-12.30pm)
a.) Ruins of St. Paul
b.) Mount Fortress (Macau Museum housed inside)

A-Ma Temple (12.45-1.15pm)

Lunch at A Lorcha (1.30-2.45pm)

Shoppes at Venetian Canal (3.00-4.30pm)

House of Dancing Water show - reservations required (5.00-6.30pm)

Enjoy the nightlife, dining or casinos (7.00pm until late)

Return to Zhuhai

Tip: Each of the attractions recommended above have been reviewed in our Macau Top Attractions trip list here on Tripadvisor. You can find individual attraction reviews and pictures for each there. See link here on Tripadvisor.

“Xi'an is a marvel of modern China”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

Xi'an is a city of 9 million people. It's inner city is a terrific venue for international tourists for it combines the old historical China with modern restaurants, shops, and bars. The City Wall was erected in ancient times to protect the city but now serves as a perfectly maintained attraction for residents and tourists alike. Many dialy and annual events take place along the walkway on top of the wall (4km long X 3 km wide) -- the walkway is 12 m wide and has bicycles for rent and has annual marathons. Surrounding the wall on the outside the government is in the throes of urban renewal, relocating 1.3 million people to new condominium apts with signficantly improved living conditons from the older residences. This city is booming. Youcan experience the wall in well less than an hour but a visit to the inner city could easily take up most of your day.

“A long day.....”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

I am glad that I did the tour but would not be bothered going to Macau again. We took a 1-day tour through one of the HK based tour company's. It is an early start and you spend approximately 2 and a half hours getting going on the actual tour in Macau. Once you get started it is off to the Museum and St Paul's. This is really interesting and I could have spent at least and hour and half in the museum. However, we only had 45 minutes for both attractions and I felt so rushed. The drive around old Macau is quite interesting; the fusion between Portuguese and Chinese architecture was interesting. We were then taken to a very glitzy but tacky 3-star hotel for a very ordinary buffet lunch where we could gamble if we wanted (1 and a half hours here) - too long. Then off to a very old Chinese temple which was quite interesting followed by the Sky Tower which was quite spectacular. Then came the most boring drive around to look at all the new casinos which are quite architectually impressive but of no interest to me as I am not interested in gambling. Then the trip back to HK and another hour of immigration and transfers to hotels. Our guide, whilst very nice was extemely dfifficult to understand and I did not think it appropriate to send a plastic bag around asking for tips when we had paid over $100AUD for the tour!!!!

“A wonderful day trip from Hong Kong”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

I took a ferry ride here (one hour) from Hong Kong) When we got into the harbor, a cab driver offered to take us for a tour of the island. It was a 3 hour tour and he charged us about $150 US dollars ( 2 people). This was well worth it. We saw all the main sights (St. Agustines Square, Senado Square, the ruins of St. Paul, the A Ma temple, the Macau tower and convention centre- with a ride to the top, the Kun Iam temple, shopping, and we saw many casinos. He left us a the Venetian Hotel for lunch, and told us how to catch the ferry back to Hong Kong. I only wish I would have read up more on Macau before we went. I would have liked to have spent a night or two there. Macau had great shopping for clothing. The Lisboa Hotel and Casino looked like an intersting place to stay. It was well woth the visit and the cabbie was great. I would not have seen a fraction of what I saw without him

“Weekend in Macau”
Reviewed May 27, 2012

Ended up being a hot and sweaty trip. They should have option for airconditioned lower deck buses instead of exposed upper decks only.
