Its not easy to find this hotel so better get a calling card once your there so you can show the taxis. the rooms are great, the only problem is the bathroom has a glass window that can be seen from the room.. we went there for a business trip so two guys on a room with a bathroom with glass wall is not a good idea. hehehe.. but theres a curtain so no harm done. :) the location is not bad. walking distance to the subway and malls everywhere. i will still recommend this hotel to anyone on a tight budget. :)

Shanghai hotel offers comfortable and semi-luxurious rooms for much less than similar hotels in the area. The rooms provide all amenities, newer furniture in rich colors, good beds (not too hard), and great views of the avenues that border the hotel. Shennan Middle Road is an important boulevard with offices, restaurants, and plenty of shopping. Most rooms provide a glass desk and HD television. It's not opulent, but feels that way. The corridors, similarly decorated in deep reds and browns provides the intimate feeling of much expensive hotels.

Its location in Futian is great, just a stone throw away from the SEG Market. Lots of shopping starting at the lobby with a high or near high-end clothing store. The metro is a few minutes from the hotel, with plenty of public transportation and taxis at your convenience. Many restaurants in the vicinity, including American fast food standbys such as Starbucks and McDonald's. The hotel's restaurants looked good, but I did not try them myself. The staff speaks enough english to get you through the door. When priced at fifty dollars or less, this is a true bargain in Shenzhen.

With reasonable rate and you get excellent service at the front desk. They do try their best to help out. The surrounding is a bit noisy. It would take a good six minutes walk to the nearest MTR station. They do need to clean the carpet better. Some rooms are designed with interesting feature.

Room Tip: if you want more quiet room you should take the back side of the hotel. If you want to enjoy the vi...

And very reasonable. I stayed in the lowest class "common room." It was large, comfortable and clean, with a large bathroom and rainfall shower. The bed is softer than many Chinese beds, though still rather hard per Chinese standards. The room decoration is Chinese (lots of red) with western touches. The staff provided bottled water every day because you can't drink the water in Shenzhen. Everything worked in the room.

One of the best things about this hotel is its location near the Huaqiang Electronics Street. Within 10 minutes, you reach a street with anything electronic -- real or fake -- you could possibly want. Check ebay for going prices and demand ebay prices for the best deal. I took screenshots from ebay of things I wanted to buy and showed the prices where I shopped. They always at least matched the price. There are also Western Style escapes on the Electronics Street: Starbucks, McDonalds, Burger King and more. You can shop at MOI, an expensive department store or a 3-story toy store. There's also a market with Western size clothes and lots of cheap souvenirs. I like the iPhone app Shopping in Shenzhen or the book The Shenzhen Pocket Guide for information on shopping. At the end of Electronic Street closest to the hotel is a subway station that will link you to almost anywhere in Shenzhen, including the airport. By all means, try it out. It's clean and fast, although it can get really crowded. I'd suggest you go the first time mid morning or mid afternoon on a weekday to learn your way around. Someone will offer to help you. Just look lost and helpless. You can even get from the hotel to the International Airport on the line that goes through Huaqiang Bei Station if you don't have too much luggage.

All in all, Shanghai Hotel is my favorite of all the hotels I've stayed at in Shenzhen, and I will stay there again, both for the location and for the hotel itself.

Room Tip: There will always be noise in any Chinese hotel. China is a very noisy place both with traffic and v...

Hotel allows smoking in rooms. So ask for a non smoking floor if this is a problem. It's a good quality property. Bit old though. Chinese style hotel. Free wifi in foyer. Couldn't get room wifi to work though. They offer a single person room that's very cheap. Easy access to shopping, food banks etc. no other facilities just a bar and card room. Plenty of food and drink less than 5 mins walk or at hotel next door.

If you just want a cheap but good quality room. This is the go. Near the electronics shopping district.

This is one of the closest hotels to SEG Mart.

Hotel is clean, chinese-style western. There's free internet and close to SEG Mart, so you can dash in, dump your shopping and go back for more.

There's a Korean restaurant round the back that is really quite good, with huge heaping servings, and it's next to a shopping mall underground.

I'd stay here - or at one of the spas at Lok Ma Chau or Luo Hu.
