Owner description: This park, which is next to the China Folk Village, presents the country’s best cultural assets and landmarks (such as the Terra Cotta Warriors and the Great Wall) in miniature in one place. The experience is fascinating and gives the sensation of having seen China in a day.

“Surprisingly interesting tourist attraction”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2012

We were staying in Shenzhen with family for a couple of weeks and decided to visit Splendid China and the Cultural Villages on our own. We did not have high expectations as it sounded very odd...and it was a little odd, but the part was so well-done it turned out to be a very interesting visit. The two parks are huge and one day wasn't really enough to see it all. There are a number of shows in the cultural villages side and time-wise it's just hard to see everything. Plus we got very tired walking around in the heat, and probably should have taken others' advice to rent one of the golf cart like vehicles!

Not being experts we can't be certain but it sure looked like the builders of Splendid China took a lot of care to make the small imitations of the original sites in China very accurate. They were well-done. Each one had a sign in both Chinese and English explaining the significance of the site. It was still a little hard to put it all in perspective without being more familiar with China and its history, but it was still fascinating. We loved that we could see things like the Terracotta Warriors display since we had no time in our itinerary to travel to see the real thing. We visited the Great Wall later on our trip and remarked that the imitation one at Splendid China did really capture the look of the wall and the way it winds through the mountains. The landscaping was really well done at Splendid China, and strolling through it is a nice experience.

We enjoyed the horse show. The riders were very skilled and the horses were beautiful when they had them at full gallop. It would have been helpful probably to be able to understand the narration but it was still a spectacle. The show itself had some surprising special effects!

We also saw some of the Cultural Village shows, and enjoyed the Tibetan one.

We were a little confused by the first exhibits in the Splendid China section...as they seemed to be both exhibits and shops.

We found that the food options did not look all that appetizing. My teenage son just lived on ice cream and the delicious frozen lichees on a stick treats rather than try any of it. There were vendors with snacks and water/drinks throughout the parks.

One thing we did not expect when we were there was the attention we would get. I don't think we saw a single western face the entire day, and we joked that we were the attraction of the day at the park. Everywhere we went we felt a little self conscious about being stared at, and multiple times people were taking pictures of us. There were many Chinese tourists there, but it never felt crowded.

Getting to/from the park by taxi turned out to be easy. We used Wikipedia to look it up and then cut/paste the name of the park from that website, printed it, and handed it to the taxi driver to get there. And It was no trouble hailing a cab outside of the park to get back, and we had our "take me" card from the hotel that was close to our family's address to show the driver. The ticket line to get in was a little chaotic, had to be a little assertive to get through that, but it was easy to understand the price and get the tickets. I was a little worried by the lack of English on the signs when buying tickets and entering (wasn't 100% sure we were going into the right park!!) but there was sufficient English throughout the park that we had no troubles.

All in all, a good day, and I would go back to see what I missed if I had the opportunity.

The shows were very good. We liked the show which featured the costumes and dance from all parts of China. The costumes were amazing. The horse show was also pretty interesting even though it was all in Chinese & we couldn't understand the commentary it was fun to watch the riders. The rest of the park was excellent - we just needed longer and for the temperature to be cooler. Don't go in the summer it's too hot.

“Not the first place to go”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2012

although in Shenzhen there arent many places to go in the first place. In fact, I would recommend entirely skipping Shenzhen, unless you travel to China for business. Splendid China and its sister park, right next door, Window of the world, are designed for Chinese who cant afford to travel / dont have a TV, with miniature copies of the real attractions, all gathered in one "convenient" location... - it doesnt become much worse in my view.

“Going around China in a few Hours!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2012

We really had an awesome five hours in the Splendid China Park. I was visiting friends in Hong Kong for four weeks and we took a few day trips to Shenzhen, during one of which we visited the Splendid China Park.

You can see many well-known landmarks, buildings, and statues in their miniature versions. The designers did their best to make them appear in what would be their natural environment. The park covers a vast area as it is attached to the Chinese Culture Folk Village Park - we spent five hours there and haven't looked at everything in close detail, so you should really take your time when you go there. It really makes for awesome photos, but what with it being so large you had better bring another set of batteries for your camera to capture it all!

We also had lunch there, it was cheap and a very good value for money. You get a range of different choices for the main course, drinks, and desserts.

Apart from the landmarks, the park itself is also very nice for just strolling around. The pathways are even and clean, and you can probably visit the park ten times and you don't have to walk any of the pathways you have already walked before. Many areas also have nice music, and sometimes you are allowed to leave the pathways to cross a little brook by stepping on some stones, by walking a huge wooden bridge, or by entering some huts that are connected by some dangling wooden bridges about three meters off the ground.

We watched a free, very entertaining show in the afternoon. The actors were very skilled and athletic - we watched them do somersaults on stilts and forming pyramids and dance.

I would always recommend going there - you can spend a whole day there if you want I think as there is a large area to cover, the food is not expensive, and there are good bathroom facilities as well.
