Last year me, my partner and brother visited China on business. We were really lucky to be offered a great deal on rooms at the Grand View. This was our first visit to Shenzhen. I was abit wary of staying at the Grand View as i couldn't really find any reviews that had been done on it, so that is why i have decided to review it now.
The hotel is really beautifully decorated. We had deluxe rooms and they were very well eequiped and the bathrooms were very large with great walk in showers and the rooms were spotless. We were out most of the time, but whenever we returned the rooms would be cleaned and everything in the bathroom soaps, etc. replaced. I have to say none of our personal belongings were every touched and nothing ever went missing. The beds would be turned down for the evening. They even went to the trouble of returning the TV remote control to its case and replacing it inside the TV cabinet every time. My brother then started to hide the remote as a joke, but everytime they would find it and replace it in the cover and back in the cabinet. For an iron you had to call housekeeping. Non of the staff in housekeeping could speak English and after been given an ash tray instead of the iron i called reception and was sent the iron, but be careful as when i used i tripped the rooms fuse, very funny.
As we were busy on business we didn't really get to sample the breakfast, but we did have the buffet lunch a couple of times, this was really nice, and we did actually manage to have really good vegetarian meals from all that was on offer.
The staff were so helpful, i really can't stress this enough. There is always someone on the main desk that can speak English, and they were really helpful with translating and writing things down for us. We are all vegetarians and they were great with helping us find suitable places to eat and we also managed to find a great Indian resturant. The hotel is located fairly well and once we got our bearings we started to use the metro services which was virtually outside the hotel entrance.
Only thing that was abit of a let down was the cost charged in the business centre for internet access and sending and recieving faxes, quite expensive, but again staff were really helpful.
One thing i would say is be very wary of the in house massages available. The prices seemed too good to be true and after a long day of traveling we all decided to go down and try it out. As they offered this for the ladys as well, along with different beauty treatments, i decided to give it a go as well. What you have to be carefull of is that the staff expect to be heavily tipped, up to triple what the stated treatment fee is. I found this to be unbelievable but after alot of haggaling we managed to tip what we felt reflected on the very inferior massage and treatments that we got. This was the only thing that i would warn people against.
But if you can get a special offer to stay at the Grand view don't miss it, we were really happy and should hopefully be returning again this March.
