“I love this hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2011

In the past 3 years I've probably stayed in this hotel for over a year and a half time. Their service is always outstanding and the rooms are always clean. I wouldn't have to think twice about coming back to stay here again unlike their Intercontinental hotel one block away.

Hardware shine is fading, room was dirty (carpets), staff's English is not up to the standard, product knowledge in the restaurants is not existent, smokers are not restrained. Nightclub can be heard, walls are not sound insulated, and I could also hear my neighbor talking loud for hours (cardboard box hotel inside), no wifi in rooms.

Go for the newly opened hotels in SZ. They tend to have motivated local & foreign staff to break into the market. GH, SLA Futian, RC all good at the moment. They cost a few $ more, but it's worth it. Don't save on quality after a 18 hour trip.

I reserved this hotel because of the reviews here on Tripadvisor- and on balance, they were basically on target. The worst (or best, depending on your tastes/viewpoint) part of this hotel is the lobby. It is a third-cousin, twice removed, to the even-more-garish Venetian in Las Vegas. The stars even twinkle. In front of the hotel there is a Western-looking robot rowing a gondola in the water. Walk through the door, and there is a lobby with bar, restaurants, places to buy something to eat, reception desk, and, up above, a bluish-hue sky with twinkling stars. So horrid it's almost elegant. So that's the bad part of the hotel. And once you get over, it, everything else really is quite good....

The rooms are very clean. The internet (wired) works, the bathrooms are clean, there are electric teapots in every room, and the place really does function. That is the good part of the hotel.

The excellent part of the hotel are the staff. They mostly speak passable English or quickly refer any matter you bring them to someone who does. They are constantly, consistently, polite, and looking for a way to be kind. In my entire stay, I didn't fine a single unmotivated person. Everyone tried to understand what you ask for and fulfill the need.

The place is near an amusement park type of place, so if you don't like Children, don't stay here. There are plenty of kids here because family bring them to have fun at the amusement park. And in the ever-so-garish lobby, at the reception, I saw a family check in, the children looking in wonderous amazement at the "twinkling stars". In truth, in China (and especially in Shenzhen), there is so much light that you don't see the stars at night. So even the twinkling stars had their place.

So in conclusion, if you want an undestated lobby, this place is not for you. If you want to be made to feel comfortable by a staff that tries to anticipate your needs, and will work hard to overcome language and cultural barriers to make you feel at home and comfortable in their place of employment, this place deserves your business. It is basically spotless, willing to do anything to make your stay a good one, and in a central enough location that you won't pay a fortune for a taxi to go anywhere in the region.

Room Tip: No advice to offer. The room I stayed in was exactly what I reserved.

In some ways a typical 5 star Asian hotel, it is over-top glamour and glitz from the Venetian columns to the tall marble columns and outdoor waterways. Excellent for Business as well as fun as it is near attractions like Windows of the World and the Holiday Shopping Mall.
The main things I look for when staying in China are 1) Location 2) Service and amenities 3) A good gym 4) A good club floor, where they can help you with travel and also fast breakfast and evening snacks. This hotel hits it in all categories.
TIPS
1) Stay on the Club floor. Fast in-and out breakfast with personal attention. Use of conference rooms, biz center and help with travel. Free drinks at night. They say it ends at 8 but if you get friendly with the women working there they will give you drinks all night until 11 (just don't tell anybody).
2) The Large rooms are nice, Almost too glitzy. But be carfeful of the marble bathroom. I've slipped a few times coming out of the shower. The Exec floors are upper level.
3) Gym/Pool. They often have weddings at the pool area in the summer, so if you want to swim, do it early. Gym is a 3 out of 5 rating in my opinion, but at least they have one with free weights.
4) Spa - nice massages, but you can get it for 1/3 the price if you go out the hotel, turn right, and go to the Sauna on the right side half a block from the hotel. Plus they give you a little "happy" at the end of the massage if you want it.
5) Food: Excellent restaurants in the Holiday plaza mall across the street. The street level cantonese restaurant has some of the best dim sum

This is a very nice hotel. From arrival we were treated very well and whisked off to a special check in area on a high floor. The hotel was very clean and the club lounge very nice with a good selection of snacks and drinks. The Suite we stayed was 2 adjoining rooms which meant we had 2 bathrooms and sitting areas. The Spa was also great we had excellent massages. The Chinese restaurant was nice, very well priced and had a large choice. The concierge was very helpful and wrote down addresses and names of places that we wanted to go to in Chinese so we could give it to the taxi drivers.I would recommend this hotel to anybody visiting Shenzhen.

I have been staying at the Crowne Plaza during visits to Shenzhen since about 2003. The level of service and room quality has remained pretty constant over that stretch and the price has remained very competitive which may have something to do with the proliferation of western hotels popping up in the OCT part of Shenzhen.

Rooms are quite large.

The breakfast buffet overs a wide variety of good food. Not great or gourmet, but you can find something you will like without a problem.

Nice workout facilities and GIANT pool. Plenty of side streets, wide sidewalks and bike paths to go running in the neighborhood if you like.

Western style shopping mall acorss the street with a very good ex-pat style gorcery store to stock up on snacks and drinks if you want more than the area 7-11's offer.
