Fee: No
Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: This reserve offers a great antidote to the hustle and bustle of Shenzhen (not to mention the city's many theme parks). Rent a bike or do some bird watching or just spend time on the boardwalk admiring the vistas of the city. It is the only nature reserve in an urban center in all of China.

“Pretty Nice”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

Overall, I give this four stars.

The Mangrove Nature Reserve (officially called Hongshulin Reserve) connects many parks along the shore which forms a pretty large area. It is clean with many facilities such as toilets, restaurants and tuck shops scattered around and is pretty convenient.

Along the shore, there is a nice view of Hong Kong, which is just opposite of where you'll be standing.

I strongly recommend a bike ride. The price is reasonable and the bike lane is long and comfortable, with a nicely laid flat road which passes by the Universiade Sports Stadium and through many other parks. There is a soft breeze as you're by the sea so the temperature will not make a ride too difficult.

I would recommend a three-hour visit starting sometime around 3 or 4 to avoid the sun so cycling or hiking will be more comfortable.

“One part of Shenzhen that is clean”
Reviewed June 20, 2014

This is a well-kept area with a chance to explore nature. We took our students there for a field trip.

“Excellent place for biking and walking in Shenzhen”
Reviewed May 10, 2014

Never expected this mangrove nature reserve is so relaxing. Other than biking, it is also a good place for walking along the Shenzhen Bay. Many many trees in this park. I love it and will definitely visit it again to see sunset in future.

“An amazing concession to Shenzhen's wild building spree”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

City planners had the foresight to preserve a few miles of coastline along Shenzhen Bay, making a relaxing park and boardwalk for all to enjoy. Parking there on weekends has apparently become a problem recently. It's much easier to take the bus to Hongshu Ling, (Red) Mangrove Park. Rent a bike, bring a lunch, jog or simply take a relaxing walk along the bay. You can almost forget the frenetic ciy pace just a few meters away.
