Huaqiang Plaza Hotel
Ranked #33 of 2,865 Hotels in Shenzhen
Reviewed February 9, 2014

The Huaqiang Plaza hotel is an upscale hotel right in the middle of the Huaqiang Bei electronic market frenzy. The hotel lobby is on the 23rd floor so you enter on ground level and take the elevators. The lobby is large and modern flanked on either side of the reservation desk by restaurants. I was checked in quickly and given my room request without hassle. Some of the staff have good English.
My standard room was modern, large, with two comfortable double beds, work table, side chair and floor to ceiling windows. I asked for a non-smoking room and actually got one, though the air conditioning system would sometimes fail me by injecting faint cigarette odors. There was a large flat screen TV with limited English channels. The internet was free and one only needed to enter your room number as a password. The room had a coffee/tea service nook (instant coffee).
The bathroom was on the larger size, marble tiles, no-fog mirror, and a big shower with dual heads. Amenities included an extended set of items, which are much better than any US hotel, and had adequate towels.
I came at a very slow time, so my rate was low, though it did not include breakfast. In general I rank this hotel at almost a 4 star hotel, and I think you will like it.
The hotel is ground-central for Huaqiang Bei electronic district; in my opinion, this has passed Akihabara (Tokyo) as the best of its kind in the world. Now, the entire street is torn up and closed as they are constructing a new subway line, so you will want to ask for a park view room to avoid the construction noise. This place was always difficult to reach by car (even bus) so I recommend you take the subway (Green or Red line) to Huaqiang road and walk the three blocks to the hotel.
If you get a good rate, you will like this hotel.

Room Tip: unitl subway construction is finished, ask for park view room

Location is good, rooms are large and comfortable and it was cheap as chips when we stayed there - around a third of the price you would expect to pay for similar hotel in the West.

The only downside was that breakfast consisted of nothing that I could stomach - chicken feet and beans, fermented eggs, suspicious looking meats - but when in China what should you expect. All good and adds to the overall experience for us.

Great stay in this hotel. Big rooms. clean and very well appointed. Nice breakfast and really good WIFI Access which make your stay confortable in all senses as you can be connected with your home/business easily once you get to the hotel. Price is reasonable according to quality percieved. The only con is the fact that lobby and hotel itself is located in floor 23rd and beyond so sometimes it can take a few extra minutes to move from groundfloor to your room or from your room to the lobby. Other than that, surely will be back when returning to SZ.

I have stayed in this hotel a few times and it seems that some minor renovation has taken place. The rooms are big and even the single beds are big. The location is good and right below the hotel is Huaqiang Bei Station. Just a few stations from Luo Wu. For those who like electronics and gadgets, this area is your haven. The staff are also generally friendly.

I stayed here for 1 night. The staff was courteous and helpful. The rooms were a bit gaudy but no more than other Chinese managed hotels. Size was decent and out twin beds were huge. Setback is the construction of the train line outside the hotel which resulted in constant noise throughout the night. Train station just below the hotel so very easy to get around. Surrounding shops give good value.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing construction.

Another long stay he at HuaQiang Bei and may i say the best stay yet. I have noticed a significant improvement due to more knowledgeable staff and I must compliment Huang for his efficiency and demeanor. Owen for his professionalism and coordination.. These staff members are the backbone of a good hotel and ensure the client relationship is warm and hospitable. The hotel maintains clean rooms always and the food is fairly good as far as hotel food goes. Breakfast ends at 10 am and no more refills to the food service after 9.30am so make sure you get there early or you do not get the full choice. The elevators to the ground floor are always busy but patrons should be aware of the internal elevators for interfloor travel which are hardly used. Better to use them to go to and from 23 to your rooms. the location itself is ideal for the electronics Junkie with all the HuaQiang bei at your door step. Not sure of any bargains here in Shenzhen though as most items are more expensive than prices in Australia for the same item made in China or USA. Even online offers better deals...Transport is great with a metro at the door. Taxis are always nearby as well.If you decide to eat out the area is awash with food options and quality purveyors of regional chinese/asian foods. Also you have the Macdonalds and the KFC for those of you who need to punish your stomachs. Overall you cannot go wrong with a stay here .!!!

Room Tip: Currently there is road construction so upper floors are better

The hotel starts at reception on Level 23.There are three lifts from ground level to level 23 and beyond, but on every visit so far, at least one lift has not been working. Tonight there were two not working and after an angry crowd assembled, one was turned back on ... there was nothing wrong with it. Are they trying to save power at the expense of their customers' time? Five minutes wait to go down and five minutes wait to go up ... how pathetic. What would happen in the event of a fire? Large, well appointed rooms at a reasonable price, but the poor access to and from the hotel floors spoils it. Not happy.
