Grand Hyatt Shenzhen

This is a superb hotel located in Shenzhen with views of the downtown area, as well as lookign across over the Hong Kong hinterland. It's surroundings are typical of this boomtown, with Cartier and Tiffany shops in the shopping mall, but a different world also on display.

The hotel is nicely appointed with a great choice of restaurants onsite and within walking distance.

One tip is about the fact that they have the odd Chinese habit of putting the reception on the top floor. Once you're checked in it's possible to take a public elevator to the third floor and then switch to a set of elevators that service all the guest floors.

The penthouse lounge is a nice spot to relax, but bear in mind it's a full service venue - and not some sort of club space as I initially assumed - they don't want you pouring your own drinks!

Great hotel, amazing views, lovely modern rooms, wonderful restaurant choices, great location, BUT the staff all seems to have just come out from hospitality school. Check in was a bizarre affair where the front desk was not sure if the room was ready or not. Restaurant staff at the Italian restaurant on the first floor seem unsure how I could charge my meal to my room, buffet tables during breakfast n dinner weren't cleared and I had to clear my plates on more than one occasion at each meal. The staff at this hotel just seem to be greenhorns at their job or they weren't trained long enough. But everything else is older full about this hotel.

Beautiful brand new hotel with incredible views over Shenzhen. Rooms were super luxurious and huge. Amazing buffet in main dining room with a wide variety of Chinese, Japanese, and Western options. Very nice gym.

First time stayed here and was impressed with the quality for the Grand Hyatt. The hotel is only a few years old and attached to the MixC luxury mall which is quite trendy hangout with a few outdoor cafes at ground level. Great for business with one of the best lounges I have seen in the Hyatt fleet.

Location: Good location close to MixC luxury mall and in walking distance of the Lowu tourist area. Right along the border with Hong Kong and some of the rooms have great views of rural part of Hong Kong along the border.

Room: Spacious, nice, and clean. Great for Grand Hyatt standards. It is definitely geared towards couples and romance with the rain shower and bathtub in the middle of the room. They have the cloud glass technology if you want privacy though. Marble floors and bed is very comfortable.

Facilities: It's another one of these high floor hotels where you go to a top floor lobby and then down to lower floors for the rooms. Lobby design and floor to ceiling window views are pretty nice. Club lounge is one of the best I've stayed in Hyatt in the region with a long cocktail hour from 530-830pm with quality food. No need to go out for dinner. The outdoor pool is a very nice touch with a bit of tropical feel to it. Not big, but great for laps. The gym and jacuzzi looked very nice as well.

F&B: I stuck to the lounge as there was a lot of choice, but was told the French restaurant and the breakfast were very good. Breakfast in the lounge was nice and more private. Good selection there as well.

Service: Good, but probably not as proactive as I would have expected from other Hyatts.

Summary: One of the best Grand Hyatts I've stayed in the region, and a great high-end base for cross boarder area or doing business in downtown.

Room Tip: Rooms facing HK border offer nice natural view

Te bizarre starts as you get in and are escorted to the 33rd floor for checkin. Once done, you get a room that you actually have to go DOWN to! To get to restaurants, you have to go back up to the lobby floor (which is above your room) only to take another set of elevators to go eat. Very strange setup, not sure why the lobby can't be where it belongs, at the entry point to the hotel.
Aside from the weirdness, the rooms are great, service exceptional, the Steak Restaurant upstairs perfect, overall a very pleasant experience. Unless you're on a budget, as this place is way overpriced for the location, but I suppose rent in a Brequet Burberry Prada district is pretty high...

stayed here in early May, mainly for business, and as my wife accompanied me we took some extra time to enjoy the Hotel and the surrounding area - neither disappointed us.
The Hotel might not be cheap by Shenzhen standards but for a 5 Star Hotel we considered it a bargain (ie you could not get anything like this in Hong for anywhere near the same price, ie 1480rmb & fees/taxes etc).
as mentioned by another reviewer, the restaurants were also outstanding & worthy of review in their own right - particularly "Belle-Vue" (although the ordering was a little confusing) but a beautiful meal.
all in all a great hotel.

Unless you are a card carrying Grand Hyatt member best to avoid this hotel if your on a budget. The hotel itself is OK but not worth the ridiculous expense of staying here. I would advise staying in a good Hong Kong hotel and travel in to get the best of both worlds for the same budget.
