We had a large group of students here for an MUN conference. The hotel staff checked us in and out efficiently which was appreciated. The showers were the best our staff members had experienced in a Chinese hotel, hot and high pressure. The students were able to use Wifi on the first floor and LAN connections in the rooms which was helpful for their research. The breakfast was about average with a lady making fried eggs on a large griddle. "Sunny side up" was a hopeless order for a non-Chinese speaker unfortunately. There was a noodle bar that was tasty and their Jaozi and Baozi (Dumplings & Steamed buns) were tasty. The Lobby restaurant was luckily serving food late and the "Xiamen Chow Mein" was as good as any street noodles I've had. Definitely recommend them. Our students were much happier here than at the hotel immediately behind it where they had stayed the previous year. I am sure we will use this one again.

Outside the hotel there is not a lot but if you go out the front door and walk down the left side street you will come to the "Yesmart" where you can buy snacks and drinks for a reasonable amount.

Room Tip: The A/C wasn't too effective but the open windows and the ocean air were nice.

I booked this hotel for a last-minute family break to Xiamen and managed to get a very good deal through a "late-booking" website. The 2 large-sized rooms that we booked both had 2 double beds and were ideal for a family. Booking one room would easily accommodate a family of 4. The rooms and ensuite bathrooms were of good quality and very clean.
My only grouches were: the included breakfast buffet had a big selection of food but only a very Chinese selection of foods, with nothing to our taste except the fruit (only melon available).
Also, the reception staff seemed clueless. Although my hotel booking voucher clearly stated that breakfast was included for all six members of our party, they tried to say it was only for 4 people. I also booked a group coach tour through the hotel's front travel desk and the girl there could not tell me what time the tour would actually leave in the morning or any precise details. Eventually I was informed the tour would leave at 7:30am and so we woke early to be downstairs and waiting in time, but when the coach still hadn't arrived to collect us by 8am, I cancelled and asked for my money back (which was returned). The girl on the desk also had no idea of how to get to Jinmen or whether we would be allowed to travel there - she thought only Americans would be allowed in.
When we booked out of the hotel there was also a fiasco as the doorman informed us that Xiamen's taxis were all on strike (he said they had known this the previous day - but not bothered to inform any guests scheduled to check out). After making a fuss, the doorman rang a private car hire which arrived just after a taxi pulled up in front of the hotel ! Needless to say, we boarded the taxi!!
The hotel is not conveniently located to reach anywhere easily and using a taxi is necessary to get anywhere.
I would stay again as the rooms were comfortable and clean, but only if the hotel was offered at a very good rate.

Room Tip: Ask for a high-floor, Sea View.

This was our first trip to mainland China and our lack of Mandarin was really a problem but the hotel staff at the Fortune Hotel really went out of their way to help. It was incredibly good value. The hotel rooms were big and clean albeit a bit hot. The food we could eat there for breakfast was very limited but then the vast majority of their guests were chinese, so this was understandable. They do however offer continental food at lunch and evening times and the prices were very reasonable.

Excellent hotel from the Days Inn chain - definitely more up market with rooms nicely appointed and all the mod cons and things you expect in a 4 star hotel. Free internet (not wireless) in rooms with tea making facilities, bathrobes, slippers etc. Great breakfast with nice wide variety. Swin pool and gym on 5th floor was also well maintained and after a hot day of exploring the city....was nice to jump in the pool and cool off. Staff were helpful, ready to please but English is not too widely spoken so having some basic chinese is helpful. The tour desk in lobby is great and discounts can be given so just ask. The location is OK - not smack in the middle of things so a taxi is required to get to places (but very easy and convenient to get taxis - cheap too). A very nice stay and will definitely use this as my base on my next trip to Xiamen. Got an amazing price on ctrip.com (less than rmb 300 including breakfast).

Tip : Fantastic reasonable food in Xiamen. Try Shu You and Jia le (both well extablished restaurants and concierge will know). Amazing seafood.....crabs, prawns and fish all cooked to perfection and very reasoable.
