“Unexpected surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013

We had table overlooking water with great view.Had lobster but I didn't chose it from tank....left that to my man!!!! Fresh king prawns cooked with garlic and a fish that had already died...couldn't face sending live one to die !!!! although there were hundreds of them to chose from.We also chose what we thought were scallops...thinking they would be grilled but what we actually chose was clam..rather large ones..and when we ordered 6 he looked a bit shocked and said only 2, anyway we had 4 and when they arrived they were in a soup with the shell on.We both attempted to eat one but unfortunately it was like eaten Dunlop rubber !! No matter how much we chewed it didn't want to be eaten !! So I am afraid we spat it out and left the other two floating in the water...... Our fault as we chose it but learned a valuable lesson.wWe were only Westerners there and I think a bit of an attraction as had few people staring at us..probably laughing there heads off!!! Anyway a fantastic experience although was a little pricey would go again just for the scallops.

“A wide selection of seafood”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2012

Nice surroundings by the bay. Clean and beautifully decorated dining hall. You can pick your own live seafood from the water tanks and get them to cook to your liking. Price and suggested ways to cook the seafood are display. A bite pricey.

“For seafood in top 2 imo.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

Jiali or shuhuyo are the best. I like the later a bit more. Be brave and try duck and all the seafood. Try chang yu red wine. Oooo missed already, these 2 are in my top 5 on earth.

“Fresh seafood!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2012

Restaurant right on the water so you have a great view. Walk in to an array of 50 aquariums. Select your meal alive an they cook it for you. Interesting items like sea cucumber, sea worm and many more. They also have normal seafood like crab, lobster and shrimp as well as some pork an duck dishes.
Not cheap but fun. You can park our car and walk on re beach to the restaurant.

“Good Dim Sum with a View”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2012

The Jai Li is next to the beach near the Grand Harbour Hotel and Restaurant on S. Hubin Road. In fact, many tourists mistakenly end up in the hotel restaurant while looking for the Jia Li. The restaurant is large and richly appointed, and has a great view of the ships anchored in the bay south of Xiamen. We were taken there by our hosts at Xiamen University. They consider it to be one of the top restaurants in Xiamen, and we would not disagree. The format is Dim Sum (many small servings, particularly various stuffed dumplings, presented in cylindrical bamboo boxes) although our hosts were only familiar with the Cantonese name, yum cha (drink tea). Indeed we consumed copious amounts of tea with the meal. The variety of offerings was much greater than I've seen in any North American Dim Sum restaurant and very tasty.
We visited at the end of the lunar new year and Xiamen is a warm winter destination for the Chinese vacationer; the restaurant was full.
