Good food, varied, in small portions, with french wines...terribly expensive. Expect to pay approx 800-1200RMB for a simple meal with a bottle of wine for 2.

Real French food in Xiamen with foie gras, good salads, a chef that is willing to change anything to your liking and a french accent while being served. What else do you need?

I have dined on 3 previous visits shortly after the opening. The location is very convenient to the 3 popular business hotels in the Hu Bin Bei Lu / lake / coffee st. districts of Xiamen. There are private rooms available upstairs for special parties... however the reviewer preferred his dining while enjoying the ambiance of the main restauraunt, mainly for its high ceilings and innovative stone wall / fish tank decor. Outdoor dining is an option if one prefers, weather permitting of course. Service was always prompt and very attentive during each of my 3 visits. Duty hostess always charming and helpful with meal selections or questions. The menu, though typically French does have some " Chinois Fusion" options as well. My 1st menu choice is the rack of lamb, followed closely by the beef steak and the Yellow Fin Tuna steak being a close 3rd ! The head chief and co-owner has a long and brilliant history in China. He is well informed on local fresh ingredients as well as a few special menu items sourced outside of Xiamen ( ie:Truffles !!! ) Since i'm wild about mushrooms.... there is always a special treat awaiting anyone preferring a seasonal dish prepared by one of the top chiefs in the area. I would suggest if you want a "special dish" prepared for your guests you would be wise to call in advance to be certain there will be an available supply and no disappointments. The wine list is, IMO a little too biased to old world selections, however I'm certain that something "special" may emerge as the management gets a little better feeling for the tastes and preferences of the area's customers. In sumary, a good experience and worthy of repeat visits as the business evolves and word spreads. IMO Greg's is certainly emerging as one of the top 5 restaurant choices in the city. I'm looking forward to my next visit to the city, in June and hope to enjoy some new "seasonal "dishes at Greg's.

We enjoyed the food once we got it however portion sizes varied greatly from plate to plate. My fish was so tiny but my husband's stew was huge - both were mains. Staff looked like they were trying to keep up but were still very unorganized. Restaurant decor was nice.
