Hotel is in a good spot not far from the main square price was reasonable 60,000 chilean pesos no surcharge for foreigners same price for all ...comfortable clean staff very friendly and helpful restaurant not up to standard and breakfast service a bit hit and miss all kitchen staff are very young felt not really interested in giving a good service on 1st night we were only offered rabbit or conger for dinner!
Suggest Spanish resatuant in main sq and a few restaurants in road adjacent to the casino very reasonabley priced

Just spent the night here after a spectacular stay at in a Yurt in Torres Del Paine so the Hotel Isla Rey Jorge was a bit of a come down. But it's a very nice place with some old fashioned charm. My room was pretty good with large bed and bathroom. Nothing here to complain or rave about. Usually a stay in Punta Arenas is a transit to some awesome outdoor journey.

My only issue is the room was seriously overheated and I slept with a light sheet and windows open in Patagonia!

Positive: central location, helpful stuff. Negative: disgusting (as for me, hardly bearable) smell of an old house in the lobby and in the room, old furniture, dusty artificial flowers, dirty carpets. For the money you pay them there are much nicer places here.

This is a really nice hotel in a convenient part of Punta Arenas. I see other reviewers found it noisy - perhaps we were lucky, but our top floor room faced the back, looking over Punta Arenas sound and the waiting cruise ships, and we slept very well. The room wasn't enormous, but it was well furnished and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, and helped us out when we needed local advice. The breakfast buffet was also very good. We were very happy overall during our 5 nights there, and would probably go back if we returned to Punta Arenas.

I stayed here for 3 nights before and after flying to Antarctica. It is central and comfortable, but very noisy. The first night I faced the parking lot next door. There was construction and car alarms kept going off all day. I moved and they put me above the pub, which was noisy all night, and off the reception, which had music playing all day. Nice people, free Internet and standard continental breakfast included but $95US is very pricey for S. America. Nothing much in Punta Arenas. That is, they do have a few streets of shops and standard banks and airline office, a few restaurants which were okay but not much to see. I walked to the Sarah Braun house and municipal cemetery for lack of anything else to do. The weather was lousy, windy, cold and rainy, and I couldn't change my flight out so killed time doing laundry! If you can afford it, fly to Antarctica with Dap/ Victory Expeditions for $2500US for the day or $3500US for overnight at the Chilean research base. Great people, knowledgable guides, fascinating land and flight, got right up to penguins and elephant seals, comfortable accommodation and faster than a boat trip.

We made reservations in December 2007 for a one night stay in February. The guy who helped us with internet reservations was quite helpful. The description of the hotel read very well, and we were expecting a pleasant stay albeit for one night.

What a disappointment - two of the reading lights in our room - a triple - did not work, the bottom shelf of the closet collapsed when a small carry-on bag was placed on it, the wallpaper was grimy in places and the hotel, overall, had the look and feel of having seen better days. The decor was tired - it felt like your old schoolmarm's musty old house where nothing worked right. The beds and pillows were too soft and lumpy, resulting in restless sleep. The toilet would randomly start running - sounding like it was flushing then abruptly stop - this happened about twice an hour.

We had a decent lunch in the hotel restaurant - dinner however, was a letdown due to half the items on the menu being unavailable - especially the Patagonian specialties.

The next morning, after I had a shower, something seemed to go wrong with the plumbing - no water pressure, a trickle from the faucet and nothing from the shower! Unfortunately, it was too late to get things fixed, since we had to leave for the airport after breakfast to catch our flight to Santiago. We did, however, voice our dissatisfaction with the facilities to one of the senior staff who then offered us a 50% discount as compensation. However, that was small comfort for a restless night and a frustrating start to the day

So, lesson learned - if you wish to stay in Punta Arenas - frankly, we much preferred Puerto Natales - I'd advise to definitely choose another hotel

This is an ideal hotel to stay in if you're going on a cruise to the glaciers, or have just disembarked from a cruise. It's walking distance from the port. You absolutely do not need a taxi. We didn't know what to expect, but we were so pleased. The exterior of the hotel is more like a manor house, and indeed it must have been someone's home long ago. The lobby is like a living room with a fireplace, very welcoming and inviting. There were 7 of us and we arrived a little before noon. The staff did everything they could to get our rooms ready and brought around bottles of water for us. Our rooms were quickly made ready and they were spacious, clean and comfortable. A welcome drink was part of our deal, and we all repaired to the bar at cocktail hour. We got pisco sours and wine, all quite good. The hotel is walking distance to a lot of restaurants, and the hotel has its own restaurant which looked popular, though we didn't eat there. The rooms were quiet and we slept well. Breakfast was nothing special except they will make eggs any style for you if you ask. The staff at the hotel were so accommodating, especially Claudio at the front desk.
