Around this square you can find interesting places like Sara Braun Palace which is besides Hotel José Nogueira and many other buildings with a very nice europen style architecture.

A visit to Punta Arenas wouldn't be complete without stopping at the Memorial to Ferdinand Magellan and rubbing the foot on the statue (a local custom).

Local vendors will also set up around the square with many items targeted for tourists.

Nice square to visit and has some nice statues and history. Vendors set up here to sell their wares especially when the cruise ships come in. Nothing of great value here in the wares, typical tourist items, but fine if that is way you are looking for to buy.

We were on a cruise ship thus only had a few hours in this very nice port city of Punta Arenas. This makes our third stop at this location. At the square there are local venders who set up their wares in wooden wagons that are all uniform around the large concrete circle that encircles the monument in the center. Lots of tourist in this area looking at the venders items. just across the street is a very nice restaurant and on an opposite corner is an old church that was under renovation the day we stopped by. Just a few blocks away if the waterfront where smaller cruise ships dock. There is also a casino and several eating places. All of this is very nice and clean. Back at the square you can easily walk to the downtown area as it is only a block away. We stopped at the Chocolate Cafe which offered free internet plus some very tasty pastries and candy. This is a very neat small town.
